Originally released in October 2016 in a limited edition of only 1000 copies, Tom Lovell - Illustrator sold fast, and was out of print shortly following publication. (If you missed out on the first printing, you may have seen them selling for big bucks in the after-market.) After receiving numerous requests for a reprint, I have decided to launch this Kickstarter campaign to fund the effort. I hope you will pledge your support by pre-ordering the book, and spreading the word to any friends who may be interested!
Widely known today for his Western and fine art work, previous books on the artist have focused almost exclusively on this later side of his career. This spectacular new book branches out in another direction to explore the artist's earlier days as an illustrator. Featuring over 270 illustrations, this 224 page long volume is filled with beautiful illustrations reproduced from the original paintings and drawings, as well as scores of rarely seen tear sheets from the pulps, the slicks, and beyond. 9x12 inches, hardcover with dust jacket.
PLEASE NOTE: This second printing is virtually identical to the first edition, apart from a few additional artworks and some slight improvements to the quality of a few color reproductions.
Click here to see a low resolution preview of every page in the book:
The Standard Edition of the book will be limited to just 900 copies.
The Slipcased Edition will be limited to just 100 copies.
The book is presented in a high quality green cloth slipcase with white printing. The Slipcase Edition is limited to only 100 copies.
NOTE: This edition is NOT signed or numbered, and does not include a bookplate.
This Kickstarter campaign exists to fund the re-publication of Tom Lovell - Illustrator. There are only two reward levels, as there are no additional goals for the campaign.
Now more than ever, publishing art books is a risky business. They're complicated to design and expensive to print, and they can take up a lot of space in the garage when they don't sell. (I have about 10 pallets worth of unsold merchandise in my garage, so I know this to be true!) I want to produce the right number of copies, and using Kickstarter enables me to gauge the demand for these kinds of niche-market books, and to adjust my print runs accordingly.
By "pre-ordering" this book, you're helping to relieve some of the pressure and risk of publishing it. Without YOUR support, the reprinting of this book will not happen.
The Illustrated Press, Inc. has been publishing Illustration Magazine since October of 2001, and has produced 61 issues to date. In addition, the publisher has produced monographs on the illustrators REYNOLD BROWN, NORMAN SAUNDERS, H.J. WARD, DEAN CORNWELL, SHANNON STIRNWEIS, WALTER BAUMHOFER, JON WHITCOMB, COBY WHITMORE, and HARRY ANDERSON, as well as the three volume series, THE GOLDEN AGE: MASTERWORKS OF AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION, and two printings of MASTERS OF AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION: 41 ILLUSTRATORS AND HOW THEY WORKED. We know how to produce fine quality art books on time and under budget.
Risks and challenges
Tom Lovell - Illustrator is completely designed and is ready to go to press. Having already produced over 150 magazine issues and 20 hardcover books in China, there are relatively few risks associated with this project. All we need are some generous backers, and the book will be released in a few months. We hope you will back this project and spread the word to other illustration fans everywhere!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
