This spectacular new book picks up where our previous volume "The Golden Age" left off. Following the same format as before, this new book features even more incredible artworks from the Golden Age of illustration, circa 1880 to 1950. This time out we feature 211 artists with 218 full page reproductions of original paintings, all photographed directly from the original art. Not a text book or a history book, this new volume is a stunning PICTURE book, filled to the brim with eye-popping visuals.
As the publisher of Illustration magazine, over the years I have been able to assemble an extensive archive of scans of original paintings from every corner of illustration history. Having produced 47 issues of the magazine so far, I now recognize that some of the material in my files and on my hard drives may never find their way into the magazine at all. An artist's history may be too scattered, or the quantity of original works and tear sheets are too rare, to support the "deluxe treatment" we usually give to our subjects (20 or 30 page articles are the norm for the magazine.) Rather than allow these stunning artworks to languish in the files, I've decided to pull together the "best of the best" of these photographs into two fantastic books. The first book was funded on Kickstarter in November and will be shipping in March. With your help, this new volume will be produced for shipment in July.

This book will be limited to 1000 copies. It is 224 pages, 9”x12”, full-color on premium glossy stock, hardbound with dust jacket.
By pledging through Kickstarter you will receive a copy of the book for only $40 delivered anywhere in the U.S. (Early Birds can get the book for only $35, if you act fast!) The retail cost of the regular unsigned edition (available after this Kickstarter campaign ends) will be $44.95 plus postage.
As with previous "Kickstarter" titles released by The Illustrated Press, this book will not be offered through Amazon, so it will never be offered at a discounted price (unless you can find a "used" copy.) If you want this book new, you will have to buy it directly from The Illustrated Press. In other words, don't worry about funding the book for $40 and then turning around and seeing it listed on Amazon later for $26. That is not going to happen.
Only one copy of the Special Edition or Early Bird Special may be purchased per Kickstarter account. As Kickstarter cannot support keeping track of multiple copy orders, and I must keep the number of Special Editions limited to 100 units, you will have to order any additional copies using different Kickstarter accounts.
To order additional copies of the regular unsigned edition, that is no problem... simply double (or triple, etc.) the total of your pledge.
International customers—Kickstarter now allows the selection of a shipping destination to cover the extra cost of airmail shipping. When making your pledge, simply select the appropriate destination country.
A Special Edition version of the book is available, limited to 100 copies. These are presented in a golden yellow slipcase with white stamped lettering, signed and numbered by editor Daniel Zimmer, with a bookplate affixed to the front endpapers.
The Illustrated Press has been publishing Illustration magazine since October of 2001, and has produced 47 issues to date. In addition, the publisher has produced monographs on the illustrators REYNOLD BROWN, NORMAN SAUNDERS, H.J. WARD, and WALTER BAUMHOFER, as well as the book MASTERS OF AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION—41 ILLUSTRATORS AND HOW THEY WORKED, and THE GOLDEN AGE Vol. 1.
Publishing art books has become an increasingly risky business. They're complicated to assemble and expensive to make, and they can take up a lot of space in the garage when they don't sell. I want to produce the right number of copies, and using Kickstarter enables us to gauge the demand for these kinds of books, and to adjust our print runs accordingly. By "pre-ordering" you're helping to relieve some of the pressure and risk of publishing this book, and you're helping to finance the project from the ground up. Without YOUR generous support, this book will not exist.
Risks and challenges
"The Golden Age: Masterworks from the Golden Age of Illustration - Vol. 2" is completely designed and is ready to go to press. Having already produced dozens of magazines and six hardcover books, there are relatively few risks associated with this project. All we need is your generous support, and the book will be released in a few months. We hope you will back this project and spread the word to other illustration art fans everywhere.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
