Originally released in late-2015 in a limited edition of only 1000 copies, The Art of Dean Cornwell sold fast, and was practically out of print upon publication. (If you missed out on the first printing, you may have seen them selling for big bucks in the after-market.) After receiving numerous requests for a reprint, I have decided to launch this Kickstarter campaign to fund the effort. I hope you will pledge your support by pre-ordering the book, and spreading the word to any friends who may be interested.
For those who may not know, this spectacular book explores the life and work of the "Dean of Illustrators" — Dean Cornwell. Unlike previous books published on the artist, this volume is FULL COLOR throughout. The book is 224 pages long, 9x12 inches in size, and is filled to the brim with hundreds of beautiful illustrations reproduced almost exclusively from the original paintings and drawings.
PLEASE NOTE: This second printing is identical to the first edition, apart from a few changes to the quality of the color reproductions. I have worked to make some of the images a little bit better in this new printing, but there are no additional artworks included.
Click here to see a low resolution preview of every page in the book:
The Standard Edition of the book will be limited to just 1000 copies.
The Slipcased Edition will be limited to just 100 copies.
While there will be no signed and numbered Special Editions for this new printing, I am offering a slipcased version. The slipcase is a high quality black cloth with white printing. (The first edition slipcases were red cloth, so it will be easy to tell the editions apart.)
NOTE: This edition is NOT signed or numbered, and does not include a bookplate. This edition is limited to only 100 copies.
This campaign exists to fund the re-publication of The Art of Dean Cornwell book. There are only two reward levels, as there are no additional goals for the campaign.
Publishing art books is a risky business. They're complicated to design and expensive to print, and they can take up a lot of space in the garage when they don't sell. I want to produce the right number of copies, and using Kickstarter enables me to gauge the demand for these kinds of niche-market books, and to adjust my print runs accordingly.
By "pre-ordering" this book, you're helping to relieve some of the pressure and risk of publishing it. Without YOUR support, the reprinting of this book will not happen.
The Illustrated Press, Inc. has been publishing Illustration Magazine since October of 2001, and has produced 54 issues to date. In addition, the publisher has produced monographs on the illustrators REYNOLD BROWN, NORMAN SAUNDERS, H.J. WARD, DEAN CORNWELL, SHANNON STIRNWEIS, TOM LOVELL, WALTER BAUMHOFER, and JON WHITCOMB, as well as the three volume series, THE GOLDEN AGE: MASTERWORKS OF AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION, and two editions of MASTERS OF AMERICAN ILLUSTRATION: 41 ILLUSTRATORS AND HOW THEY WORKED.
Risks and challenges
The Art of Dean Cornwell is completely designed and is ready to go to press. Having already produced over 125 magazine issues and 12 hardcover books in China, there are relatively few risks associated with this project. All we need are some generous backers, and the book will be released in a few months. We hope you will back this project and spread the word to other illustration fans everywhere!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
