Animal Kingdom Personality cards were created to help educators and parents start conversations with young adults on the verge of making major life decisions, such as where to go to college or what career path to pursue.
By reacting to a series of simple statements on the cards, the teens learn about their innate personality and lifestyle preferences and priorities. And they gain insights into their behavior style in groups.
The cards are an excellent tool for promoting self-knowledge and encouraging growth. They're easy to use and are valuable for children as young as 8. In addition to parents and educators, they can be useful to therapists, educational consultants and human resource professionals.
The idea of dividing personality types is as old as Aristotle. Animal Kingdom Personality Cards are a new application of the Animal Kingdom/Top Card personality priorities originally described by Nira Kfir and Steve Cunningham later used by Lynn Lott and Jane Nelson.
Each of the 48 personality trait cards in Animal Kingdom Personality Cards contains a statement of a personality characteristic -- such as "Confronting people directly is very hard for me to do" or "I don’t wait to be asked to step up and get things done." The teens rate each statement as "Most Like Me," list the other three categories...
When the answers are sorted, the young people learn if their personal style is most characterized as the Lion, the Eagle, the Chameleon, or the Turtle. Checkout the FAQs for more details about each of the personality styles!
Unlike many standard personality profile tools, which force the test-taker into one personality type, Animal Kingdom Personality Cards recognizes that people can have traits that overlap one type or another, or that can change during times of stress. The end result is a spectrum of information… “You have all these skills, but when you are stressed you may lean toward using this set."
I am trained as a parent educator and college counselor. I wanted to use the Top Card methodology in a new way that I thought my students would respond to. So I invented Animal Kingdom Personality Cards.
I have tested these cards out on a variety of different populations: my students, my friends, my colleagues and other parent educators; and they all loved them and wanted them for their own use. I am hoping to print 500 packs of the cards (or more) in the first print run.

Risks and challenges
I have been in communication with several card production companies, so all that remains to do is check out the samples that are "in the mail" and set up the files for the order. As a former graphic designer, that part of the process is already done. The decks will be printed by customizedplayingcards.com, a very high quality playing card manufacturer, so the only risk is the possibility of printer error, or delivery delays.
If I can't fund the project fully through Kickstarter, I will still go ahead, and honor the rewards selected for the cards. You will not be charged by Kickstarter, and I will send out new invoices.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
