Hello allo! I wanted to take a moment to share my favorite Christmas present with all of you - perhaps you saw my facebook post, but if not, here's the skivvy... I received my dad's old cape for Christmas (!!!)
My grandmother located this woolen treasure amidst the stacks of time in her home in Jackson, Michigan and shipped it south- "so here it is, your dad's treasured cape, dirty and torn" she wrote. And how absolutely perfect it is! Throwing it on, there's the weight of 45 years of magic between the threads..
As it goes, my dad (a man of theatre both on and off the stage, who now lives in Hawaii) decided he wanted his own cape in high school, so he picked out the fabric and modeled it to the tune of a Paul Revere Civil War cape... His girlfriend of the time stitched it together, (made one for herself as well) and wah-lah! He wore it in well and I look forward to doing the same.. This classic style is both masculine, feminine and might just be a future design for Amazing Capes... what do you think?!
There is nothing like the holidays to discover a few family secrets... and it was so exciting to find that cape-making runs on both sides of mine :) As my dad always says, "nothing is coincidence".
May the old join the new in 2013 in all the best ways.
Hugs to you and yours for the New Year,
PS. A big thanks to the Hamilton family for throwing such warm and joyful holiday parties at 'The Big House' in Fairview, NC each year...it's such a treat to attend.
