This summer was a hopeful one. Finances were almost in order, and some of my friends were making some excellent music that I wanted to help share with the world. With these two factors in mind, I was ready to relaunch my multimedia label, FM DUST.
Ready, that is, until the roof caved in: in August, I was indefinitely laid off at my reasonably well-paying job. This occurred just as I was catching up on medical bills and other debts enough to spend a little money on "passion projects". In other words, I needed this income not just to live, but to get FM DUST back on track... and it's gone.
This loss of income is specifically preventing me from releasing the official FM DUST "comeback", a compilation entitled NOTHING IS PERMANENT. The proposed album is an audio omnibus centered around the concept of impermanence (one of the "three marks of existence" in Buddhism). It is already compiled and sequenced, basically ready for production (I have a few design tweaks and such to which I must attend before release).
The album contains contributions from some of my favorite artists (and I hope some of yours):
NOTHING IS PERMANENT will be released in a limited edition of 300 deluxe packages: each copy will include a professionally dubbed cassette, a download card, a sticker, and a 2.25" button. Every set will be hand-assembled and housed in a deluxe gift box.
If I am able to accrue $1100 via this campaign, I will be able to release and properly promote this collection. The tentative release date is May 5, 2015. Naturally, any applicable contributors to this campaign would receive their copy before it's available to the general public.
BONUS: If the initial goal of $1100 is exceeded by $500, FM DUST will also produce a limited-edition NOTHING IS PERMANENT t-shirt, an extra gift for our most generous supporters!
I am already very proud of this project, and excited to share it with others. Can you help?
Risks and challenges
NOTHING IS PERMANENT is the latest in a long series of FM DUST releases. I'm going a little bigger with this one than I have with than previous releases, but not enough for it to get out of hand. I have the experience, resources, and know-how to get this project done.
All the research and shopping around is done. The only potential setbacks would be minor production issues: the cassette manufacturer taking longer than expected, stickers getting misprinted, etc. These issues are unlikely to come up, but even if they do, it will only be a matter of time. Barring an "Act of God" that takes me out of commission, I guarantee that NOTHING IS PERMANENT will be completed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
