About

The All Terrain Cover ("ATC" or "Cover") Project was initiated after spending six-days exposed to continuously rainy weather in the Alaskan tundra.  Sustained rain can damage expensive equipment and saturate the highest quality rain gear, which is exactly what happened.  Whenever that trip is brought up the first thing always mentioned is  "I hope we don't ever get rained on like that again..."

We won't, because now we carry All Terrain Covers.

At the time an ultra-lightweight weatherproof solution was needed.  The idea was to develop an adaptable shelter made to be setup on unsuitable terrain while being strong enough to shed Near Gale winds, heavy precipitation, and light-medium snow.  Within three months prototype ATCs were deployed in Alaska and Oregon.  Over the last year Covers have been developed, tested, improved and used in the field for their intended purpose.  R&D and conditions use testing were conducted primarily in Alaska.  Important to note that while slight design modifications were made from performance testing none of the ATC prototypes failed in any way while being used in the field.

ATCs are purpose-built concealable shelters developed to be highly portable, extremely lightweight, and have an inherently fast and intuitive setup process.  Each Cover is freestanding and capable of being set upright on rocks, in the brush, or on the side of a mountain.

Currently ATCs are manufactured in Anchorage, Alaska.  A network of vendors has been established in Washington and Alaska to help support production in Alaska.  Materials used to make Covers are 100% made in the USA being sourced from Washington, Idaho and Wisconsin.

Rewards that can provide cover in the field are offered to Backers who pledge funding for the Project, as shown in the short film below:

Funds received from pledges will be used to deliver Covers, purchase more production equipment and further promote the ATC brand through expanded marketing efforts.  The Kickstarter objective is to get ATC products out into the field and used for their intended purpose.  As this happens we are confident users will see the value provided by ATC products and in turn speak highly of the brand to others.  Marketing efforts will continue as long as there is measurable demand with the intent of gaining, and maintaining, market share.  Currently the All Terrain Cover is Patent Pending.

Risks and challenges

A full Project Risk Management Plan has been drafted and used as a tool to identify and quantify risk, and plan response activities for when risk events occur. Fortunately, none of the Project's identified risks have occurred and no unplanned corrective actions have been necessary as a result of unknown risk. Although for every risk there is opportunity. The Project's risk management has come more in the form of opportunity enhancement, consistently seeking out new opportunities to expose users to the ATC and deliver Covers to market.

Materials shipping and logistics of manufacturing in Alaska, as well as production all have variables with inherent risks. Too little or too much demand could become a problem if not properly estimated. Product delivery delays could occur if any number of the preceding production related activities are delayed. Fortunately, most of the risks identified in the Kickstarter phase of the Project have a high detection time; meaning, we should be able to detect issues early enough to avoid or mitigate the effects of the risk event. If potential Project delivery delays are detected, ATC will revise estimated delivery dates and keep Project Backers informed of progress.
