We made €4K in 11 days and we are speechless. But we have a new push-goal. And its name is €5.5K...

Right now we have enough to cover printing costs for the first 3 issues. That brings us up to April, which is a massive relief. But we don't really have enough money to create the events we've fantasized about. In fact, we just don't have it.

If we get up to €5.5K we will be able to print the magazine to as high a standard as we want, as well as create amazing events that would give life to the magazine, and mean we can actually be flesh and blood people, not just words.

HELP US GET TO €5,500!!!!

New Reward

  •  €40 - Steve McCarthy has given us prints to give away to 9 clever cookies. You get a copy of the mag, and Mick Minogue's artwork on top of that. And this print happens to be one of our favourites...

Our story

Having been laughed out of a few meetings and having learnt to use excel spreadsheets, we feel we are now qualified to ask you for money.

Recently we’ve become obsessed with the presence of people’s privacy and secrets gyrating publicly across every platform. We have an uneasy love for it and we’re very fascinated by it. Public confessing has become a common way we interact with each other -whether it’s Instagramming your goji berries or tweeting about your right to show your nipples – the sharing of tiny personal details has become a common way for us to communicate and be creative.

So we’re jumping on the bandwagon of self-evisceration and taking advantage of your pervy voyeuristic itches to stuff some printed pages down your throats.

We want to share personal experiences through good storytelling and writing. We’re borrowing from the tell-all aspect of blogging culture and adapting it to a print format because we think you people are into those moments of self-exposure, as well as collectible items. So it’s sort of like The Moth, but in print, every two months, and with a Dublin angle.

We want to use the accessibility of illustration and good design to focus attention on new writers and their experiences. Our formidable team oozes charisma and sex appeal, so we felt we needed a way to collect all their pheromones and ideas in one place for the greater good.

Each issue of GUTS will have one theme, with 8/9 writers and one illustrator responding to that theme. It's edited by Roisin Agnew and designed by Shane Kenna and Imogen Oh.

And the winners are…

Issue 1: The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter is finished and contains personal essays and fiction on bust-ups, break-ups, and lovesick puppies from Dan Gray, Nialler 9, Maeve Higgins, Eithne Shortall, Neil Watkins, Elske Rahill, Brian Herron, Laurence Mackin, and Roisin Agnew. With artwork from Mick Minogue.

This…. Issue 2: I know you are, but what am I? Ciaran Walsh, Megan Nolan, Donal Dineen, Daniel Gray, Maggie Armstrong, Donal Flynn, Fiona Hyde, Brian Herron, and Roisin Agnew. With artwork from Aran Quinn.

And then this… Issue 3: Blow Smoke and Hard Candy Padraic E Moore, Grace Dyas, Rosa Abbott, Greg Spring, Moira Brady, Neil Watkins, Fink, Daniel Gray, Roisin Agnew, and others. With artwork from Steve McCarthy.

If all these words just aren't doing it for you, check out Steve O’Connor’s lil vid above, as it does an alright job.

Risks and challenges

We are looking for money for our first 3 issues, mainly to put towards the cost of printing, but also to give us a little extra to organise an event around each issue.

Most of this is a labour of love and we've been blessed with incredibly sound people along the way, who have let us get away with all sorts of cost-cutting tricks. BUT if we don't have that minimum amount of money to cover printing costs this is a no-go. So gimme.

TO AVOID THOSE PESKY POSTAL COSTS WE WILL BE PICKING A COLLECTION POINT WHERE EVERYONE CAN PICK UP THEIR REWARDS IN DUBLIN. For everyone else, we can arrange posting things to you!

Everyone who donated a reward to our campaign is involved with GUTS, and we would like to thank them for their loveliness.
