Roaches: The Role-Playing Game Experience
Role-playing game for beginner, intermediate, and veteran gamers using cards and dice to determine outcomes.
Roaches is a beginner role playing experience geared towards younger players, that allows for higher levels of play that will keep the player interested as they grow. The game is also a great way for families to get together and play a game that has playable options for various levels of player. Roaches is developed by Pinche Games, the creators of App'd The Card Game.
Roaches will include a rule book, 48 colored roach cards, 6 everyday danger cards, 6 room cards, 1 white GM die and 5 different colored dice that correspond with the colors of the roaches. The color coordination helps young players to keep track of game play and turns while it helps older players when their dice roll off the table.
What Makes Roaches Unique?
Roaches is a unique gaming experience because it involves several gaming skills:
- Game master - will roll their die to determine what room the players roaches are in, as well as to determine what everyday danger the roaches must face. The game master will then lead the players through a little role playing where they must try to defeat the every day danger in order to move on.
- Players - evade the everyday danger, and then they will have to battle one another for control of the house. The players will roll their die when battling one another for the rooms of the house they are trying to invade.
- Cards - players get to use their roach cards to keep track of which of their roaches survived to battle on and which roaches have met an early demise. The backs of the cards show the roaches in a deceased pose so players get to flip the card over when the roach dies to show that it is no longer in play.
- Dice - players will roll their dice when evading everyday dangers and when battling one another.
Learning: Roaches provides young players with the opportunity to practice recognizing which numbers are greater than other numbers, it provides them with the opportunity to work with others, as well as providing them the opportunity to make choices about their own game play and how those choices affect the outcome of the game. As players become more accustomed to game play there are portions of the rulebook that encourage them to add an aspect of role playing to the game, so the game provides a stepping stone for our future gamers. When they grow past this phase then they will use the roaches skills to enhance their game play and finally once they have all of this down they will go to the advanced rules where they can work cooperatively and where they will use new skills and even have hit points.
Playability: Roaches is not simply a game for young players though. We have had great success with families who have played the game and even groups of adult friends who have played the game. Roaches provides a fun dynamic where players can battle one another and use their role playing skills to taunt and tease as they race for total domination of the house. There are several levels of play that allow for playability for many different types of gamers.
What We've Done
Pinche Games has been working for years to create games that are new, different, and exciting, for adults, and now one of our main writers has decided to bring some games into the gaming arena that engage our children and introduce them to the world of gaming. Now all we need is your help to get past the testing phase and into the mass production phase.
Pinche Games has been publicly play testing Roaches for several years now. We've have great success with children ranging in age from five – fourteen at numerous gaming and comic conventions in and around the San Antonio area. We have also had great success with the parents of the children who played, with families, and with groups of friends. We have even had a teacher using the game in her fifth grade classroom to assist them with critical thinking skills. Roaches is a great way for players to come together no matter what their level of expertise is and play a fun game with friends or family where skills can be learned and used to increase their level of game expertise or simply to have fun playing a game about roaches. We have tested it, now we simply need to give everyone out there a chance to play it.
Why We Need Help
With your help, we'll be able to print a fun box, a professional set of cards, a rules booklet and dice; then we can begin to ship them to the stores who've asked for them, and hopefully to the ones who haven’t asked for them as well.
We need $8000 to get going, but for every few dollars over $8000, that's another set of games that we can print and another gaming shelf we can stock.
We are teaming up with http://kickingitforward.org to help us move Roaches along and also help other Kickstarter projects as well. It is good for us "Indies" to stick together and help each other out as best we can.

Risks and challenges
This will be the 2nd mass produced game we will be creating. Since we are an independent gaming company we have always printed and packaged our games on our own using items that we purchase online in bulk, from local dealers in San Antonio, TX or simply by going to the local copy store and making copies and binding or packaging our games ourselves. Kickstarter is providing us with an opportunity to actually have a company print and package games for us that we can then provide to the public. Through our contact with other independent game companies and personal research we have found that quality control and shipping are issues that other companies have encountered. We plan on checking and rechecking the quality of the games to ensure that you receive a game that is properly colored and formatted and durable for game play. We also plan on working diligently to ensure that the games are shipped in a timely manner because our main goal is for you to be able to play our game. We appreciate your support and patience as we step into a new chapter in our game development.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
