The Coolest Bluetooth Speaker In The World? (Suspended)
Introducing the Brand New PUMP Air Bluetooth Speaker. Yes, ...It Levitates!
Dear fellow Music Lover,
As I write this I'm sitting here in a park just south of London, England.
(That's a picture I just took as I write this a moment ago) and I'm feeling inspired!
Since starting PUMP Audio in early 2014, we've had our eye on making the ultimate Bluetooth speaker.
We've been right 'through the mill' with our thinking and experimentation.
We've looked at making the smallest bluetooth speaker in the World, through to making the biggest, baddest concert style speakers that if used would get you arrested!
The issues with those two particular ideas were that (1) the small one sounded rubbish and (2) the big one was extremely expensive to develop and produce, and so would have very limited appeal.
We tested a LOT of different chipset and speaker/driver combinations, and got samples (in their generic outer cases) from all the top manufacturers.
The problem we found is that a lot of them simply weren't very good.
The manufacturers were in almost every case concerned with how cheap they were rather than how good they were...
The few that showed promise were...how can I put this...a bit generic and a bit plasticky :-)
So I decided to start from scratch and find a manufacturer that:
1- was able and *WILLING* to work with us to create a Bluetooth speaker with The PUMP Sound;
2- was able and *WILLING* to work with us to create something that was COOL and NEW;
3- was able and *WILLING* to work with us to produce a Bluetooth speaker of un-matched build quality.
When we launched PUMP in-ear last year, we set out our stall as being "Better Than Beats", which the general consensus has proven to be a true statement (74% of people agreed in a blindfold test).
And here, we're doing it again...
Thanks to the power of Kickstarter and the passion Kickstarters have for embracing the new (and better), we were able to launch on a global stage last year with our PUMP in-ear model.
I think it's fair to say we made some serious waves with PUMP in-ear (yes, this was before we thought about doing creative names for our products!).
For the PUMP Air project we took the decision to share the tooling cost for the outer casing with our factory in China due to the high investment needed.
The downside of this is that other companies can buy access to the tooling design for the case from the factory to make their own case with whatever quality of materials they choose.
However, the big upside is that we could use most of the development budget on perfecting the sound, which is really the PUMP signature.
The sound was developed and (we think!) perfected in house by PUMP and is proprietarily ours. Only we have it.

PUMP Air comes with a full 2 year Manufacturers Warranty.
This covers defects in materials and workmanship for two years.
Basically if it goes wrong through no fault of your own then we will replace your PUMP Air.
We've also recently innovated PUMPreplace...
Many companies rely on -- or exploit in our view -- customers who've bought a product from them and had it break down out of warranty, or have just broken it by accident.
If they want to replace it then these customers are forced to buy the same product again at full price!
While these easy sales are no doubt financially attractive to retailers and manufacturers, we thought about it hard and decided that it's just not the PUMP Way.
If you damage or break your PUMP Air, fear not...
We definitely don’t want to leave you in the lurch just because you had an accident or lent it to someone who’s a bit too heavy handed.
That’s why we offer PUMPreplace.
Just get in touch at www.pump-audio.com with a copy of your receipt and a picture of your damaged PUMP Air and we’ll arrange another one for you at a heavily subsidised price. This price may change a little from time to time, but it will always be a fraction of the “new” price, so just ask us what it is currently.
We offer PUMPreplace whether you purchased your PUMPs directly from www.pump-audio.com, or from a retailer.
The RRP / SRP will be somewhere between £169 and £199 and their US and Euro equivalents.
I've erred on the side of caution and said that it's going to be £169, meaning you are getting AT LEAST a £30 saving for the Kickstarter Launch, but it may be that you are geting a bigger one than that. We'll decide what the final RRP / SSP will be once we have more feedback from users and retailers.
I know that you are going to love the sound quality of your PUMP Air, it's portability, it's versatility, and it's build quality.
But above all, you are going to love owning the coolest Bluetooth speaker in the World right now*
* in our (no so!) humble opinion!
All the best, and welcome to the PUMP Family!
P.S. Please remember to post your review on Kickstarter and on the PUMP site. Thanks in advance!
Risks and challenges
As with all Kickstarter projects there are risks, and these are the steps we take to mitigate against them:
Loss of or damage to the shipment en route to us:
We usually use DHL for inbound shipments from the factory to us. This means that all shipments are fully insured. If we did lose a shipment for reasons I don't want to even mention for fear of tempting fate, it would be insured. We would have to re-manufacture (adding around a month to delivery time) but it would not affect your order.
Loss or damage of your PUMP Air en-route from our warehouse to you:
We will replace any lost shipments. We will either take insurance, or insure ourselves for this eventuality. In the case of the latter (self insurance) then we will ship orders on separate days to mitigate against any unlikely issues such as a delivery truck crashing etc.
We go out of business or don't deliver on our promises:
The company that owns PUMP and OMG is Speedcam Systems Ltd, which is a registered company in the United Kingdom. Company reg number 07751910. It was incorporated in August 2011 and is 100% owned by me (Adam Blair). It has been profitable every year since 2011. Speedcam Systems Ltd has no bad debt whatsoever. We've also done a previously successful Kickstarter campaign for our PUMP in-ear model, so you can see from that that we are the real deal :-)
Our factory goes out of business:
I think this is extremely unlikely but if it did occur then we would either find a new factory or refund all orders.
I can't think of any other risks but if you have questions please don't hesitate to ask!
