Our new work Moses(es) recently premiered in September at the FringeArts Festival in Philly, PA. We also toured the work to VSA New Mexico, in Albuquerque, the Myrna Loy in Helena, Montana, and are preparing for a tour to the DC area to perform at the American Dance Institute and our New York Premiere at the BAM Harvey Theater December 4-7 as a part of the Next Wave Festival.

Moses(es) is the title of Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group’s newest full-length dance performance. This work examines the idea of how we lead and why we follow. It also explores and questions our expectations and relationships to leadership and how this affects the connections of migration, beliefs and cultural practices.

Ideas for this new work began with Reggie’s re-reading of Zora Neale Hurston’s Moses, Man of the Mountain (the Moses story told as a Southern folk tale in African-American vernacular), and with his exploratory travels to Israel, Egypt, Turkey and Mali. The book stirred questions about Moses and the significance of the many iterations of this larger-than-life figure in the African Diaspora and in many cultures. This was the germination process of Moses(es) the dance piece.

Added to these layers are Reggie's personal inspirations and extensive research which include Zora Neale Hurston, Nubia, the mystical tradition of Zar, Fractal Symmetry in application, and the choreographer Ohad Naharin who Mr. Wilson worked with when he was a young dancer.

With this KickStarter we are reaching out to fans, family and friends of Fist & Heel.

We need your help to raise $10,562.25. Your donation will help cover the fees for creative collaborators - Costume, Lighting and Set Design - and also support the touring phase of Moses(es) including money to subsidize rehearsal space and touring costs (freight, luggage and travel).

Take a look at our video and come join the journey of Moses(es) with Reggie Wilson / Fist and Heel Performance Group.

Risks and challenges

Reggie Wilson / Fist and Heel Performance Group is a company of 12 including our Lighting Designer/Technical, Costume Designer, and Dramaturge. Though based in NYC, we are touring company which takes a lot of planning, coordinating, and money. We've have had great support in the development of our company, established  1989, and are raising the final funds to push our work Moses(es) along. The money will cover Your support will help cover the fees for Costume Design and Maintenance, Lighting & Set Design extras since elements of this piece are site-specific and require that new materials be purchased at each venue. For the continued touring of Moses(es); cities include Chicago, IL; New Haven, CT; Lee MA and Memphis, TN, this money would help to off set rehearsal space, freight, luggage and travel costs. With 12 people and at least six more stops to go, we're trying to close the gaps in these areas.
