Daring Comics (Savage Worlds)
A full-color, dual book project, including a four-color Super-Hero Setting plus the first Mega-Event book for Savage Worlds
What is the Daring Comics Setting?
Heroes battle villains through the streets and skies. Whole city blocks are covered with debris from stray energy beams and super-tough bodies colliding with buildings. From megalomaniacs who dream of ruling the world, to dictators who wish to shape the future course of humanity, only the heroes stand in their way.
Daring Comics is a four-color comic book setting for the Savage Worlds Role-Playing Game, and fully utilizes the Super Powers Companion, Second Edition from Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
This Kickstarter covers both the main setting book, and the first Mega-Events book: Hellbrood. All books are full-color. All PDF products also come with mobi and ePub formats in the same package.
What's in the Main Setting Book?
Daring Comics is a four-color setting with a robust cast of characters, details on the twin cities of New York and Sentinel City, and information on areas around the globe and beyond the solar system. The setting book is expected to exceed 200 pages. It includes:
- New Edges, Hindrances, and playable alien races
- New power options and modifiers
- Setting History and information on the Multiverse.
- An overview of the United States, as well as numerous foreign nations and how the existence of super-beings has affected them.
- An introduction to various organizations, including: Vanguard, S.E.C.T. (Superhuman Emergency Containment and Tactical), Typhon, VanCorp, State Industries, The Colony, Defenders of Liberty, and others.
- Details on the Lunarian moon society, the warlike Martians, and the strange Atlanteans.
- Plenty of NPC Villains to toss at your heroes.
- A 6-part mini Plot Point Campaign with Savage Tales
What is a Mega-Event?
Mega-Events are the method we'll be using for Daring Comics to release specific Plot Point Campaigns for the setting. The first Mega-Event revamps Hellbrood for the Super Powers Companion, Second Edition.
The Hellbrood Mega-Event begins with a series of adventures that set the stage for the greatest tragedy Earth has yet to witness, as the heroes must unite against quite possibly the most powerful threat they've faced to date.
In the midst of the growing crisis, invaders from beyond the solar system— a race hell-bent on destroying all life across the cosmos— arrive on Earth and initiate an apocalypse.
The Hellbrood Mega-Event book includes:
- New Equipment and full details on the alien invaders
- A mini-series of seven adventures
- A 12-part Plot Point Campaign dealing with the Necrolean invasion and the post-apocalyptic Earth
- Over two-dozen Savage Tales which not only take you around the globe, but into the Lunarian, Martian, and Atlantean societies
- Details on how the invasion has altered the setting
Naturally, just like in comics, the players have a chance to not only save the world but also restore it to life (after all, as the default, this is a four-color setting, not post-apocalyptic super heroes). Of course, not everything can return to what it was, and the story ripples from the Hellbrood Mega-Event will continue to be felt through your personal campaigns and future Mega-Events.
As with the Setting book, this Mega-Event book is expected to exceed 200 pages
The Kickstarter Exclusive Adventures
The three (3) Kickstarter adventures are full 17-25 page adventures that can be played as stand alone, or when played as a trilogy tell an overarching story set within Sentinel City. The adventures are designed with a baseline power level of Street Fighters or Four Color (see: Super Powers Companion, Second Edition from Pinnacle Entertainment Group), but can easily be adjusted for Heavy Hitters or Pulp Heores.
Besides any Stretch Goals that might be reached, the Daring Comics line-up for Savage Worlds will also have smaller support products in the release cycle. A few are noted below. Those listed with *** will be provided for free to Kickstarter backers.
***Adventure Cards: Add them to your existing deck, specifically tailored to comic book action and drama.
***Figure Flats: Including both setting established NPCs and original artwork that can be used for characters of your own creation.
Free Mini-Adventures: Meant to be played in a single play session, approximately 6 to 8 pages each.
District Guides: A series of 10-12 page PDFs that take a deeper look at sections of Sentinel City and Daring's New York, providing more details on locations, threats, notable figures, and plot hooks.
Where Does the Funding Go?
Each Backer Level is designed to not only get you some type of reward, but to make sure we have enough money to also print and ship the book if you are due a physical copy. Keep in mind, a Kickstarter is not a product pre-order . You are pledging money that will go into actual book production so that we can get it into your hands and into retail. Which means that each Backer Level has to be balanced to not only get you whatever rewards are due, but to also make sure production can be funded.
And let's not forget taxes, which had to be figured into the goal so we didn't end up in trouble.
In other words, right off the top between Kickstarter's cut, Amazon's cut, and taxes, we see less than the funding goal paid to us, all of which had to be taken into account.
All remaining funding goes toward full-color artwork, additional writers, editing, covers, graphic design, and physical reward fulfillment.
Who is Daring Entertainment?
Daring Entertainment has been a role-playing and fiction publisher for over 8 years, and has published close to 70 products.
Our Autumn Arbor Campaign Setting for the old M&M Superlink license was a full-color hardcover that went on to become a semi-finalist in the 2008 Origins Awards (to allay suspense, we haven't submitted to any industry awards since then).
Since then, we've been known in the Savage Worlds license for our popular War of the Dead and World of the Dead product lines.
If you choose any of the Add-Ons for your pledge level, simply pledge the increased total amount. The specific Add-Ons you want will be indicated to us when you fill out the post-Kickstarter Backer Survey.
+$10: Don't want the print editions but want the adventures? Use this option to add an additional exclusive 17-25 page PDF Adventure from the set of three (3).
+$10: Want additional copies of the Daring Comics Setting Book or Hellbrood Mega-Event PDFs? Add additional copies for only $10 per PDF.
+$45 (United States): Add an additional physical copy of the Daring Comics setting book or the Hellbrood Mega-Event hardcovers to your rewards. No more than four books (in total) can be added. Shipping is already included.
+$50 (International): Add an additional physical copy of the Daring Comics Setting Book or Hellbrood Mega-Event Kickstarter exclusive hardcovers to your rewards. No more than four books (in total) can be added. Shipping is already included.
We're hoping to have the two main PDF books, and the adventures, to you within roughly 6 months, with the print books ready to ship not long after that. Of course, when dealing with so much artwork, such a large staff, and not to mention printing and proofing, delays can happen. Naturally, we'll post updates in the event of any delay.
The Stretch Goals, as stated below, will take time to produce depending upon the title. They are designed to be product releases after the setting book and first Mega-Event book, so we expect them to be mainly a 2015 product schedule.
Each time a Stretch Goal is unlocked, every Backer of $15 or more automatically gets the PDF added to their rewards. There's nothing else you have to do.
Unfortunately, because we have no idea how many Backers the project will get, it's impossible to offer print editions of the Stretch Goals as part of the Kickstarter. However, for each unlocked goal, all Backers will receive a code to purchase the print book from RPGNow/DriveThruRPG for only the cost of printing and shipping.
It is important to note that the Stretch Goals are support for the product line, and will take time to produce and make available. The Stretch Goals are designed to serve as more than a year's worth of product releases, and will be released throughout 2015. All Backers will receive the PDF edition no less than 30-days before it becomes available to the public. We'll going to try to get you the print edition code at least 14 days before it become available for retail sale, but whether or not that is possible will depend on the RPGNow/DriveThruRPG capabilities. Worse case, you'll get the code as soon as it releases.
All Stretch Goals are full-color.
$16,000: This level unlocks the second Mega-Event Book for the Daring Comics setting, a story that threatens not only the heroes' Earth, but the entire multiverse
$20,000: We'll release a third Mega-Event book! Designed for street level characters, it reveals a conspiracy that reaches into all levels of business and government.
$25,000: Whether you're a hero fighting crime or a villain trying to stay one-step ahead, Inside Solitaire takes you deep inside the maximum security super-villain prison. Written by John Polojac (who's worked on both Wild Cards and DC Adventures from Green Ronin Publishing), Inside Solitaire includes details on life inside the prison, the Null Therapy where a villain can undergo experimentation to remove his powers in exchange for a shorter sentence, dark conspiracies, secret organizations, and detailed maps. The book is chocked full of villain NPCs to toss at your heroes, whether the heroes are inside investigating one of the conspriacies, or the villains have done the near impossible— and escaped!
$30,000: At this level, we put the Books of the Arcane into the production queue. Yep, as the title suggests, this book covers the mystic community, foreign dimensions, the unseen horrors, and the things that man was not meant to know— but that are waiting for you just around the corner. It also details how to build a series focused on magic and the supernatural.
$35,000: Once this level is unlocked, Galactic Guardians enters the production queue. This sourcebook takes us beyond Earth and gives more details on the Lunarians and Martians. From there, we go beyond the solar system and to distance planets as we explore the various alien races, hero organizations, galactic threats, and cosmic entities. GMs are given tips on running a galactic style campaign.

Risks and challenges
Creating role-playing games is always a balance against time. None of us work from central offices, and our freelancers are not only spread around the country, but actually around the globe.
But we've published close to 70 RPG products over the past eight years (including hitting every release date for all 52 parts of War of the Dead). Delays can happen (and honestly, most likely will), but we've also never been hesitant about letting our fans know when something slows us down.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
