Pomegranates is hoping to record our fourth album this summer in the studio where we recorded our first.

--- UPDATE --- Hey Guys! I can't believe how many of you came through so fast for us! Less that 48 hours. Unreal. Even though we are at the magic number on Kickstarter, the reality is, that isn't the magic number for how much the recording will be. Also, I know I mentioned we were robbed in the fall - well, we were also just audited for $1000 which I'm not sure we'll have the time or resources to contest. Haha. Whine whine.

That said, we still need to raise at least a couple grand (just for the recording, not for the audit or theft- that's our problem). Feel free to let your friends know! Just posting a link is a huge help - Not that you all havent done more than enough.

DONT WORRY- All your support is going to the recording. Not ice cream or Wii games! Unless we need the sound of ice cream splattering on the floor from two stories up for the record. Which is unlikely.

Dear friends,

Pomegranates has been a beautiful and life-forming adventure for us since Isaac and I first called Joey to ask if he wanted to play keyboards and maybe start a band. 4 years, 3 vans, 3 albums, 2 EPs, and an uncountable number of friends and memories later, we are ready to make another album. Our goal is one a year, and this July we hope to return to Sound of Music in Richmond, Virginia to keep the pace. In the summer of 2007 we found ourselves in Sound of Music's temporary space, as their 'real' studio was destroyed by a neighboring fire. We recorded in 90+ degree heat in the top floor of a warehouse from 6 in the evening to 4 in the morning. After 6 full nights 'Everything is Alive' was recorded and mixed. At the time we didn't realize how fast we had completed an entire album--we were just happy to have had the experience with some new friends. That album was self funded--partly from a decent insurance pay out from an inadvertent teen driver who ran our van off the road, and partly from the sacrifice of our friend Karl (who played bass and guitar on the Two Eyes EP, as well as that first album). Soon after, our new friends at Lujo records released the album, which is undoubtedly a reason why many of you are even reading this. When we listen back on that first album, it's easy to remember how wide eyed, eager and excited we were to be making a record back in 2007. These new songs--some written, some still little seeds in our brains and hearts--feel like we have tapped back into that energy. Fun. Impulsive. Joyful. Earnest. We have a lot of great memories from our time in Richmond, which are a bit more well documented in the liner notes of 'Everything is Alive'. Sound of Music has since moved into a fresh new space more conducive to recording, both schedule and space-wise, but the people and energy there are the same. Also in the spirit of that first album, we want to try and fund the recording independently of a label. That's not to say that we won't end up releasing this new record with a label at some point, but if we are able to fund the record through your support and generosity, odds are you will be able to listen in your car or bedroom a little bit sooner than if we waited around for funding to come in from an outside source. To be honest, we may not have even been in the position to ask you for your proactive financial support if it wasn't for an unfortunate event this past October. A couple days before about 6 weeks of touring, our van was broken into, and thousands of dollars worth of musical equipment was stolen. We had to scramble to replace it in the course of 48 hours, and are still in the process of paying it all off. I think we all feel a little strange petitioning our friends and fans for financial support, as we know for many it is a sensitive subject. For all of us, and most of our fans, spending even $6 for some music isn't an easy decision. I personally feel that being in a band is a privilege and luxury, and feel blessed to have been able to do it as long as I have been. Please know that any thing you can do to support us, be it a kind word, coming out to a show or putting our song on a mix is incredible and humbling. Thank you so much for your time and support! We write music in the hopes that through a recording or a live performance, we are afforded an opportunity to make your frustrating week better, help you think about life in a new way, or maybe point you to the Truth that we believe shapes our days. We will have a new album for you one way or another!

In good faith on behalf of all of us,

Jacob Merritt

All the above, except no cookies, BUT- We will give you our faithful guitar that was stolen in the fall, dragged around and abused, and then miraculously recovered a few weeks later, in less than perfect condition. We have been using it since it was recovered, but its time to replace the poor thing. We wouldnt recommend using this thing unless you replaced the strap locks, and a got a good intonation. A lot of our album 'One of Us' was recorded with this guitar. Shipping may be extra if you are outside the US. Ships in a hardshell case.

You can come hang with us in Richmond for all or part of the time we spend recording in July. Unless you want to sleep on a futon or sleeping bag on the studio floor like we will, you just need to cover your own hotel and travel expenses unless you ride there with us. And if you are new to the recording experience, know what you are getting yourself into! Lots of fun, and sometimes lots of sitting and listening to a guitar track for 20 minutes straight. Richmond is a nice town, so Im sure we will be doing lots of exploring, eating, and movie going. Email if you are considering this option and have questions! And FYI- We won't be doing any 'partying' or 'drug using'. Just 'record making' and 'good memories making'.
