Emma's Tea Spot is looking to raise enough funds to complete the opening process! We believe that we can make our community stronger by reconnecting people to their environment and neighbors by providing a venue that is committed to using Authentic British products, local vendors and farms and seasonal or organic produce.
We aim to provide classes and events to show case our mission and show people how to live sustainably and consciously while maintaining clean living practices. Using seasonal ingredients and home steading practices to to keep down costs and increase wellness.
From a young age Emma has loved cooking and gardening, foraging and plant nomenclature. Coming from a long line of cooks, herbalists and gardeners she has travelled extensively, learning local recipes and street food combinations wherever she goes. This love of food and nature and travel is shared in Benjamin's kindred spirit.
Home steading practices including Bee keeping and chicken cooping and cooking it like Grandma used to make. We love family meals, repurposing, recycling, woodwork, natural material mastership and handicrafts and any practice that compliments their drive for complete wellness, natural and traditional living with a waste not want not approach.
After managing a pub style, farm to table restaurant in London and becoming a Master Gardener and Holistic practitioner, Emma moved state side and developed and directed a local and organic, vegetarian and nut free school lunch program in a Fells Point private school. For nearly 9 years she grew plants to supplement a locally and organically sourced mid day meal. Home grown and hand cooked from scratch daily for 100 students. The curriculum included a wide range of cooking and gardening classes, like juicing, essential oil uses, herbal and home made crafts and remedies, composting, worm bins, chickens, bees and handicrafts.
Benjamin and Emma both have a love for traditional values and are family and service orientated.
This kick starter is to realize Emma and Benjamin's dream of reaching a wider more public audience. Reintroducing people to their vital and symbiotic relationship to their environment. Good, clean living practices increase empathy and compassion for ones neighbors and forges deeper and more responsible and meaningful relationships with one another, therefor increasing the integrity in our own lives.
Through living and servicing you this way we hope to nurture our community and bring some British hospitality to charm city.
We are committed to Hamilton and Baltimore' and hope we can compliment the 'shop local' and 'farm to table' initiatives by providing clean and sustainable business practices along side authentic British goods to elevate the soup, salad and sandwich dining experience. We also aim to provide classes and events to compliment this ethos and assist those with a similar interest around the city.
Risks and challenges
The challenges that come with this project include being able to maintain consistency in a British themed menu as well as quality. Seasonal products dictate a menu and can drive up costs and reduce quality when using conventional products to provide consistency.
Whenever possible, we are committed to using only organic ingredients when locally sourced products are not available. Keeping our foot print on our planet as small as possible. Using British and imported goods only when necessary to maintain authenticity, we strive to find the best locally sourced ingredients to compliment our mission. Thus supporting our community and neighborhood as well as providing a consistent model that our customers can rely on.
Family obligations can be another challenge in starting a new business and providing a service to the community, we aim to over come that challenge by working as a husband and wife duo and providing after school classes and events to not only our children but our neighbors and their children along the way. A warm family environment that does not sacrifice a quality dining experience to achieve that end.
We do not want to exclude our family, rather extend a warm to welcome to everyone facing these same daily challenges of working and parenting and being a kid by tackling it as a village. By providing a safe and happy corner store that wishes to become a hub of activity in the community, by being active in our community, getting to know our customers and patronizing our local business we hope to support Hamilton and Baltimore while staying local and balanced in our own family lives. Teaching our family that perseverance, dedication and commitment is the back bone in having the right approach and attitude for success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
