Pledge today and be the first to receive Eve this Summer 2015
Get ready for the next evolution in home irrigation.
Eve Irrigation Controller & Sensors are here to bring your sprinkler system into the 21st century. Eve is the only smart in-ground irrigation system with fully integrated moisture sensor feedback - transforming your yard into a real smart yard.
Put a few Eve Sensors around the yard, boot up your smart phone, and forget about your sprinklers. A healthy lawn and garden has never been so simple.
You've probably noticed that the Eve Controller & Eve Sensor in our main project video look a little different now. We've made a lot of improvements in the past few months, such as renaming our moisture sensor from "Adam" to Eve Sensor. This video shows some of the other changes we've made.
Meet Eve - an irrigation controller with intelligence
...and a drop-in replacement for your existing 'dumb' controller. What makes Eve so smart? The Eve Sensor, which monitors soil moisture throughout your yard. Together, Eve creates its own ecosystem to take control of your sprinklers and optimize watering.
And the best part - Eve saves water too.
Moisture sensor feedback and rain prediction ensure that you'll only water if your soil needs it. In some areas, Eve can cut your yearly water bill by $400!
And that's not all...
SmartThings is a home automation hub that makes your home smart by uniting smart devices in your home (doors, locks, lightbulbs, and now sprinkler systems). With SmartThings, Eve connects to the Internet & your smartphone via a proven and supported cloud infrastructure.
Eve requires a SmartThings hub to function. You can buy a SmartThings Hub at the SmartThings store.
We have developed SmartApps for SmartThings so that you can manage watering on your iOS, Android, or Windows Phone device. And since SmartThings is an open platform, you can also build custom applications to make Eve interact with any connected device in your home, so you can tailor Eve to your custom needs.
The Kickstarter funds will go directly to injection molding costs and the first production run. In return, you'll be the first to get Eve this summer 2015, at prices better than retail! Plus, you'll get the satisfaction of making Eve a reality.
We want to get the ball rolling on production as soon as we hit our goal (and even before the campaign is officially over), so back now, and - thanks in advance!
Note that this video was done on an early build of Eve. Eve now features quick connects and a separate backing/mounting plate for even easier installation.
How many Eve Sensors do I need?
Every corner of your yard has different needs. For optimal scheduling, use an Eve Sensor with each zone and Eve will customize the schedule for each zone independently. Or, you can also group multiple zones to the same Eve Sensor to share the heavy lifting. If you choose to leave a zone without any Eve Sensors assigned to it, Eve will use only landscape type and weather for scheduling.
Risks and challenges
Scaling from prototype to full manufacturing is always a challenge. Luckily, we have experienced companies supporting us. We are proud to be working with the SmartThings team to make the best possible user experience. On the hardware development side, we are working with Silicon Labs, who make the Ember stack used in Zigbee devices, as well as MMB Networks, who make the Zigbee module that is used in Eve. Together they are responsible for a large majority of Zigbee devices in use today.
Our hardware is designed for OTA (over-the-air) updates, so it will always be up to date with the latest features. And can even adapt to the up and coming Thread standard for home automation.
By leveraging the SmartThings platform , we have taken away much of the risk associated with the application and cloud development. This way we can concentrate our efforts on manufacturing execution.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
