In November 2014, Steve Leaf & The Ex Pats headed into Chicago's Gravity Studios to record new material. Our summer was spent writing and workshopping a lot of new material live. In preparation for the studio time, we whittled it down to four songs for an EP called 'Lightspeed'. Gravity was our home for twenty hours over a Saturday and Sunday and by the end we were pumped with what we had captured, and needless to say, really tired.
The recording process is something that this band is very passionate about. We love to make records. While the tracking, mixing, and mastering for 'Lightspeed' is complete, we have run out of funds to press and distribute the album.
That's why we're here on Kickstarter, inviting you to pitch in and push this project over the last hill and into the land of completion. With your support, we can reach our goal of $1,000 and guarantee the pressing of 'Lightspeed'.
Throughout the kickstarting process, we'll be sharing lots of updates and other fun things.
Thanks so much for your support!
Risks and challenges
Projects are always volatile and things definitely come up. Pursuing a project like this is like a little microcosm for life; stuff happens.
That said, the initial risk to convey is not hitting our goal. With Kickstarter, it's all or nothing, betting the farm as it were. If we hit our goal, we're in the clear and we're releasing a new record. If we don't, then its back to the drawing board.
Another risk with pressing vinyl is time. Vinyl manufactures are very busy and there can be hiccups on their end as well. After funding occurs, we anticipate having the records in June. However, unexpected delays associated with pressing may arise. If that happens, please be patient—the records will come!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
