Defining a word that is sometimes blurred in its meaning.
What is the project?
In this time of pop culture, reality TV, comic book heroes and iconic sports figures, our projects’ mission is to find out what people think heroes are. How do they envision a heroic person and what criteria they should meet?
Our goal is to find some answers to a question about a word that is often over used and sometimes imprecise, or inexact. There’s something more behind that word “hero” than the dictionary definition. We also want to explore whether the meaning has changed through time, historically, within age groups, or ethnicity, and culture; and if it has had a societal shift in how we view our “heroes”. What does the word “hero” mean to people. What kind of person does this hero have to be?
Our objective is to interview 150 or more subjects who are from all walks of life. America is filled with diverse peoples and our goal is to interview as many of them as we can to obtain a distinguishable set of responses.
By having an open dialogue through these interviews, along with research, our goal is finding out how this definition has changed, or if it really has.
What we have accomplished so far.
We began months ago and the stories of those already interviewed are funny, compelling and poignant. We are setting appointments with schools and libraries for further interviews, to insure that all age groups and their families are involved. We have professors of philosophy, history, musicians, artists, deans of schools, local politicians, military; all lined up for personal discussions.
Who's working on the film?
Adhoc Productions is a community of artists who do educational, interesting and fun films. We are passionate about what we do!
Kati Beddow Brower is this project’s founder. She is an educator and proprietor of her company Local Commotion Walking History which she founded in 1993. Its mission is to integrate performance with education, going beyond the scope of historical text. Kati is a graduate of Rutgers University in NJ, a writer, a vocalist and performer. She has performed and sang professionally since her teens. For years Kati has taught acting, Improv and had been the Director of a Jazz and Youth Project for over 6 years. She loves creating projects and ideas!
Wayne Emley has been involved in Theater and film since the age of twelve. After a year with the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus as magician and fire eater, he did a hitch in the Marine Corps. Wayne has been an actor, stunt person as well as scenic carpenter. He has also taught theater crafts to young people grades 7 to 12. Wayne has already done a few short films by himself that are posted on the AdHoc Productions website.
Laurette Schlitsey is a medical professional who is known for her organizational skills. She has many years of "behind the scenes" in theater as well as film experience. Her first loves are costume construction and photography. She has stage managed, designed, built, painted and decorated her way thru numerous musicals and plays. Teaching backstage theater craft to high school students was especially rewarding. As she approaches retirement she looks forward to having more time for her pursuit of interesting theater/film projects.
We greatly appreciate those who have visited our KickStarter page. We THANK YOU in advance for considering our project.
What the money is going for?
We are so excited at the aspect of joining and posting our project on KickStarter! We need extra help with travel (NJ, NY, CT, and PA, so far!), accommodations if needed, meals, film expenses such as supplies or permits, film festival fees, production costs, marketing and reward costs.
Our rewards are fun stuff.
We have some fun ideas for rewards such as “hero” beaded bracelets, “hero” bags and "hero" tee shirts, dvds of film upon completion, credit and acknowledgments on our website and Executive Producer credit in the film; all dependent on what pledge amount is made.
What happens if the money isn’t raised in time?
KickStarter gives each and everyone of us on here hope and support to finish our projects. With your support we have a chance.
Our project needs to reach its goal amount to be funded. We need to do this before the time expires! Take note that your credit or debit card won’t be charged until the goal is reached. AND nothing is charged to you until the final day is done and the goal is reached.
IF we do not reach our goal you will not be charged at all and we do not receive any funding. We hope this won’t happen and we can finish our project. It’s such a good endeavor!
