About this project
About the Book
In The Flesh: The First Death At Your Door Collection is the collected best strips from the last three years of my weekly web comic and a whole lot more. I've included lots of commentary and extra sketches into the layout of this book. And now I want it printed and distributed.
You can help. I plan to get 100 of the books printed and into some stores for distribution. And I want to have some at the comic conventions we're planning to go to this fall and spring to help promote the strip to a larger audience.
A pledge by you validates my work and will encourage me to keep putting out a weekly strip for your enjoyment.
Goal MADE BONUS!
If this campaign gets over funded, all backers (except the $5 level backers) will get a limited print 11X17" poster of an alternative cover design. Sweet!
Stretch Goal #1: $1100
If we make it to this level everyone beyond $5 level receives two buttons exclusive to the Kickstarter backers. That's right, we'll make these two buttons for you, but only for the supporters of this campaign. Cause buttons are cool.
Stretch Goal #2: $1200
Generously donated by Anthony Hary, if we make $1200 everyone gets a digital copy of his recently completed kickstarter campaign, 15 Minutes. To tie it all together here's a quick synopsis:
"Kevin Marcus watches the Reaper take the life of his friend, then turn & warn Kevin: He is NEXT. Can Kevin defy the Reaper?
Stretch Goal #3: $1800
Death by chocolate. That's right, a commemorative Death At Your Door chocolate bar for every backer at the $25 and above level. Eat it. Save it. Doesn't matter, Death and this way cool chocolate bar WILL come for you.
History of the Strip
Back in 2010 I launched Death At Your Door to absolutely no fanfare, no announcements, no audience. My goal was to put out a great strip and have a great time doing it. Along the way, my characters have encountered more absurdity as my writing and plots have wandered to the ridiculous, the serious, and the hilarious.
I started researching the best delivery methods for strips and stumbled upon WordPress. And never looked back. And that's just part of learning I've accomplished while creating this strip over the years. My inking has improved dramatically, weekly drawing has forced me to become a better artist (not just in drawing Death At Your Door either), and I've met an entire community of like minded creators and some great people who like what I'm doing. It's for them (and ok, me) that I keep creating more strips each week.
I give away the strip online and along the way I have created some schwag to promote it. But it's all stuff I like and wanted, buttons and mugs, and other really cool stuff I wanted my characters to be featured on. Likewise I want this book in my trembling little hands so I'm committed to getting it made.
Death has taken to life like a bad lichen on a rock, absorbing little but tenaciously hanging on.
Risks and challenges
Although I don't foresee any obstacles, I do know that they can happen in any project. Having said that, the book is completely laid out and ready to go, with a proof copy already printed, and it's pretty much entirely up to me to get it printed and shipped to you. I'm planning lots of lead time for production but if delays do happen I'll let all the backers know and keep you aware of any changes to the scheduled shipping date.
I have over fifteen years' experience in print publishing. I'm abundantly confident that I can handle any issues as they arise -- and do it quickly and accurately -- to ensure that the book you receive will be shipped on time, professional and awesome.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
