A Passion for Growing the Highest Quality Herbs and Blending Delicious Herbal Teas
I am a 29 year old single guy trying to make a living doing what I love - small scale sustainable farming. For me, its all about farming for health.
I grow herbs in dense poly-cultures in biologically rich soils. Choice leaves and flowers are carefully cut, dried and hand processed to maintain maximum vitality. 75% of inputs for these teas come from my or neighboring farms. Few people have ever seen (or tasted) a tea like this before.
The herbs are grown and the blends are ready - I am running this KickStarter to raise funds for the glass retail packs you see below.
The 2017 Sacred Blossom Farm Herbal Tea Collection:
Tiger: My favorite. This rich lemon-spice herbal tea promotes sustained, focused energy. Serve hot or mix with honey and serve cold.
Angel: Most people's favorite. A variety of nourishing herbs will sooth the mind and body and delight the palate with its sweet, lightly minty, extra-especially delicious flavor. Serve hot or cold.
Moon: California Poppy* is the basis for my favorite ever bedtime tea. I blend it with chamomile and an array of fragrant herbs - very tasty. Originally, I wanted to name this blend "Bulldozer".
* Grown at Sacred Blossom Farm or local partner farm.
' We didn't produce quite enough this first year. Partially grown at Sacred Blossom Farm or at a local partner farm.
What is the Kickstarter money being used for? I have been working on this project for years. I've invested everything and worked very hard to get my farm and the herbal teas to this point. I've connected with local coffee shops and grocery co-ops - they are keen to carry my product.
Now, for the best chance of commercial success, I need packaging that will showcase my teas so they really stand out on store shelves. The minimum order is really high. It is going to cost $12,000 to purchase the containers and labels. I am so close but I need your support!
About Tony DiMaggio and Sacred Blossom Farm:
I have been farming for nine years, always learning. Six Seasons at Natura Farms in Minnesota apprenticing under Paul Otten, 1 ½ years on an “organic farm world tour” and 1 ½ years in Southern Oregon, America's herb production capital. God willing, I will continue farming for many years to come. For me, this is an incredibly interesting and rewarding vocation.
I farm because I love working hard, with the living earth, under the sun. I farm for health: my health, your health and the health of the planet. I am very proud to produce something tangible and of the highest value for my fellow man. It's not about the money; if money were my main motivator, I would have chosen ANY other occupation first.
The Start of Sacred Blossom Farm. I have had the name ready for a long time but only this spring I secured a long term lease on a beautiful 60 acre farm in Mondovi, WI. Early in the spring I bought grow lights and had near perfect success with my seedlings. With my savings and the help of my wonderful Amish neighbors I was able to finish building my 1100 sq ft, mostly solar powered herb drier just in time for summer. I kept a weed free field and was able to surpass all of my production goals. I produced 1,200# of dried plant material. Most of this I grew on my farm and some ingredients (ginko biloba, elderberries, elderflower, apples, oats and some mint) I harvested with my neighbors on their farms and dried at my facility.
Life in Wisconsin: I love my rural agrarian life. I wake up early and work until it gets dark, practically every day. I get along great with my wonderful neighbors, even if I don't quite fit in. A couple times each week I go to the only restaurant in my rural Wisconsin town and sit at the big round table and yak with the old-timing GMO corn farmers. The other half of my neighbors are Amish and my farm serves as the Amish telephone booth. Funny, I spend more time (and have more in common) with my organic vegetable producing Amish neighbors than with the conventional folk. One young Amish gentleman told me they live the way they do so they can “live closer to God” and I feel much the same way about my lifestyle.
Thank you to everyone for your support. You are supporting local, sustainable agriculture. A healthier you and a healthier planet. Most importantly you are supporting my life and my dreams. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
When the teas arrive at your door, you will be glad you did!
PS. Please help me find my next fan. Share this with your tea drinking family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and acquaintances!
Risks and challenges
My dream is to one day support a family with this farm business. There are a million steps between here and there but this is a great place to start.
As for this year, the herbs are grown, dried and ready. The recipes are awesome. I even have a great website. Now, I just need to purchase the packaging so I can get my herbs into the hand (and mouths) of the people who will enjoy them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
