Let's stretch for vinyl!
So many people have asked if I would print vinyl this time around but I didn't imagine we'd get this far this fast with the campaign - so it was just not in the budget...however, now that we're here, I am putting up four new levels with VINYL options! PLUS, I just had a generous VINYL-loving backer let me know they will match gifts up to $600 through end of the campaign!
///////ALBUM PROGRESS SO FAR///////
I've recorded a bunch of demo ideas and some of them will stay for the final record. I've written and re-written songs in and around the hymns and am dreaming of who I will ask to sing along at certain points...I'll share those as I've confirmed as this Kickstarter gets along. I've planned for a release in February or March.
So what you are funding:
///////PERKS & PRIZES///////
David Salinas has designed my much-loved last couple of shirts and we are working on the final design for this record, but it will be based off this rough sketch I did earlier this year...inspired by a line in one of the songs that I wrote at the end of How Great Thou Art - "And the trumpet sounds // Like fresh cut flowers // Heralding // Your great Name // Hallelujah!" The shirts will be high quality American Apparel. Fun-Fact: David designed my very first website back in 2006 using Flash. He's a WHIZ at Flash! Miss the days of Flash...
We've just added four new levels. Vinyl is about the experience. Yes, it sounds better than digital...yes it has nostalgia attached to it...but more than that, it makes listening to music an intentional experience again. The physical act of choosing what to listen to, flipping the sides, dropping the needle, it all makes you want to pause and listen...take in and hear things you won't hear on Spotify or iTunes. So good! Here's a video I published to promote BRIGHT STAR's limited edition vinyl - enjoy!
CanYouHandleBar Beard Oil!
The folks over at CYHB are seriously the best. I love their Devotion oil as I'm a patchouli kind of guy, but also keep a little bit of Wisdom around for the times I want to smell a bit more like Colorado. They donated seven bottles of each scent for this record! Go visit their site to read more and see their goods!
TonkaCat and I would love to wish ya'll a Merry One this year - it's a very rare thing to get a Strumpel Christmas card, but Tonka and I had a productive and wild photoshoot with John Dale, and boom...we have a super sweet Christmas Card ready for your fridge! Design may change slightly.
Heck Ya the Halls!
If you love old school crooning and trumpeting from yours truly, I have an incredible Christmas duo called Heck Ya the Halls with Latifah Phillips from Page CXVI - our first full-length will be shipping on Thanksgiving weekend and it's been a big hit with our non-Christmas-music-listening-friends...so that says something! Check us out HERE.
Over the last few years I’ve collaborated with hundreds of people, from worship teams to youth groups, from small groups to randomly assembled festival participants, to write over thirty songs. Participants have never failed to write a song and feel a new spark and empowerment to create...it’s even sparked cultures of songwriting to spring up in some communities. Check out a few of them below and hear more HERE.
Young Adult Crew in Salt Lake City, UT - PSALM 77
Home Church in Dodge City, KS - PSALM 46
Worship Team in Columbia, MO - PSALM 16
My good friends in Costa Rica have a record label, Westfire Records, and they are some of the most talented musicians and artists I know - they shot a couple of videos of me last time I was visiting - here's the first! Check their site for other great stuff - and if you're a Spanish speaker, this crew might be exactly what you're looking for!
Finally, THANK YOU for being a part of this journey with me. I can't tell you enough how thrilled I am to make music that makes our journeys a bit brighter, a bit more honest, and a bit more in proximity with God. :)
