Risks and challenges
The Vivid Publishing team has successfully organized and delivered multiple previous campaigns- we were filling orders and pre-orders before Kickstarter was a thing.
There's one exception- we're still finishing the last few handcrafted Plush from our recent Plush Kickstarter. Mace is nearly there, folks. 8 )
But this game involves more moving pieces than our book releases- literally.
If you're wondering why on earth our delivery is slated for March of 2018- that's why. I don't want to overpromise, because I know this is going to take time if we want to do it right.
We want SKIRMISH to release polished, professional, and with maximum replayability. That means we have to give the development team time to test, test, and test some more. Balancing a game like this takes a lot of time and work. Every tweaked stat has a cascade effect, altering every possible interaction with every possible other card. The only way to optimize the experience is to put in those long hours.
Unlocking stretch goals adds to our production time- more art will take me time to produce, and the apps are another challenge.
We do have some contacts with experience 3-D modeling and coding apps- (See the Dreamkeepers reading app with a 4.7 out of 5 rating for one example) and we should be raising enough revenue to assure those jobs can be outsourced successfully. But even if all goes well, 3-D modeling takes time, as does rigging and animation, as does coding and debugging.
If there was one risk of default in this campaign, I would say it's the app. I'm confident we can do it- or we wouldn't have it as a stretch goal. But it's the objective that involves the most variables for us.
The production of the game itself, the books, and the items are relatively simple- territory we've traversed many times before.
We're consolidating manufacturing as much as possible, with PrintNinja- who have proven eminently reliable in the past.
So, we've got a lot of work- but I've calculated carefully to give us adequate production time and funding to ensure we deliver. And if we don't, you're going to be getting regular updates explaining exactly what's going on. We're in this together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
