Welcome to Dreamkeepers, created by Dave & Liz!
Also free to read is the prequel web comic, Prelude. Featuring the childhood misadventures of the cast, Prelude is our bi-weekly indulgence in pure fun.
But it’s never been available in actual, physical book form-
We’re creating an 8.5 x 11 280-page full color book, complete with illustrations and extras. The catch? All that colorful beauty makes for a monstrous printing cost. If we go print-on-demand, we’d have to charge at least $100 per book. Ow.
That’s why we want to fund a large scale print run for this book- so we can sell copies starting at $35. Far more affordable for our readers- and plus, a successful Kickstarter gives us the elbow-room for all sorts of goodies and extras! Including an all-new sticker set from the Vivid artist STJ:
If we hit our Kickstarter goal, the Prelude book will get printed at an affordable rate, along with stickers, posters, and buttons springing out from the sidelines. We’ll be printing and delivering books- one of our favorite things.
I love the feature of Stretch Goals that Kickstarter offers. I’ve set it up so that some stretch goals will rain benefits down on everyone supporting us- so you don’t have to be a top-tier donor to enjoy the extras. If we pull together, I’m excited to see just how far we can push this thing!
$15,000 - Mission Accomplished, Books Printed.
$25,000 - The top-tier donors will confer with me on the creation of a new Dreamkeepers poster. Every Kickstarter participant gets a copy!
$35,000 - And new Prelude updates weekly for all of winter 2013.
$60,000 - And We add a slew of extra content to the book- illustrations, character bios, and exploratory cross-sections of the settings.
$100,000 And top-level donors decide on a DK plush design that we manufacture and deliver to them and all other Kickstarter participants as available. (Based on the plush pricing, we might not be able to deliver to folks below the book-receiving donation level.)
$250,000 - And Volume 1 is reprinted for retail-level distribution. All $35 and up donors receive a copy of the new Volume 1 edition and are listed as series sponsors within it.
Risks and challenges
This one is actually a fairly low risk- the comic is already made, the files backed up. We just have to print it. If you guys fund the printing, you will have books. Period.
We've got years of experience in working with printers, handling book runs, and delivering to readers- including years of experience in hitting unexpected hurdles and disasters.
We've overcome them all so far, and I see no reason to interrupt the trend.
We deliver. It is what we do.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
