Wannabe Heroes, an all ages Superpowered Action Comedy Comic, is centered around a group of characters immersed in geek culture.
Thank you for checking out my project and please feel free to ask me anything!
Be sure to sound off in the comments and let me know what kind of rewards you'd like to see or if there's a particular print you think would look cool because I'll be doing the art for the rewards and adding updates all along during this Kickstarter and I'd like to hear what you have to say to better tailor the rewards to fit you, my supporters!
Wannabe Heroes is a modern superhero action comedy which follows the adventures of six people entrenched in the geek community. Each character represents a different faction, if you will... There's a gamer, a cosplayer, a wannabe comic creator, a collector, an elitist and, of course, a ninja bear and as seen in the Wannabe Heroes webcomic, each have developed their own interesting powers. For instance, the collector, Phan, has the ability to absorb physical powers that appear in any comic he's touching while simultaneously draining the ink from the pages effectively destroying the comic.
Together, they battle all sorts of villains who seem to be in plentiful supply in their small coastal town of West Bay. This comic has been described as "New Mutants" meets "Calvin and Hobbes" and is suitable for all ages.
This KickStarter is for Wannabe Heroes, Issue One which is the first of a four issue story arc. It will be printed in full color and be between 32-40 pages depending on stretch goals reached. This book will include 25+ pages of story plus the never before printed 6-page Ninja Bear short story drawn by Jason Godwin and written completely in Haiku by myself (Jayson Kretzer). Additional funds over our initial goal will go toward the printing of the next three issues and I also have some interesting stretch goals below.
This kickstarter version will be a Limited First Edition 500 issue run of the comic and once the 4 issues have been created, we plan on releasing "Wannabe Heroes" as a hardcover graphic Novel. By supporting this KickStarter, you will also be awarded the next 3 issues in pdf form absolutely FREE.
The scripts are completed, the art is underway and we expect to be shipping these books out this September. The good news is, you won't have to wait for any of the other rewards you're entitled to, because we'll get started on those as soon as this campaign is complete and begin mailing them out in May!
So what do some of these rewards look like? you may ask. Allow me to illuminate.
Here is a sample of what you can expect to get when you pledge the WANNABE HERO Tier. In addition to all the other goodies, you will be designed as a hero in the Wannabe Heroes Universe. This does not mean you will appear in this particular comic, but you will appear in the online comic strip and we'll email you when that happens!
If we surpass the $3,000 needed to print the initial run, then I've added some stretch goals. Please feel free to shout out other ideas you'd like to see for stretch goals in the comments section.
$4,950 - Add 8 more pages to the comic and all pledge tiers above $25 will receive a 4x6 Wannabe Heroes Postcard.
$7,500 - Will print a 16-page companion book including character bios & sketches which all tiers will receive as a digital pdf and all tiers above $25 will receive a hard copy.
$8,500 - Will add an additional 8 pages to the companion book featuring a mini comic based on one of the comics Phan absorbs powers from.
$10,800 - Will release the initial two decks (Ninja Bear & Super Phan) to the Wannabe Heroes Battle Card game. Everything you need to play the game with 2 players. More info to be released if we hit this goal. All tiers above $25 will receive a promo card from the game and all tiers above $80 will receive a copy of the game.
$15,000 - Ninja Bear Plush Toys! More to be explained about this reward as we near the goal.
More mind blowing Stretch goals to come if we can get there!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
After working 15 years in the field of advertising, I've come to realize that there are always risks involved with a project, but I plan to use all my experience in the deadline oriented field to make sure this project runs as smooth as possible. However, if a problem does arise, I'm a firm believer in keeping a good open line of communication with my supporters so you can be kept abreast of any hangups and how I plan to deal with them.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
