About this project
Swingos will be a documentary that highlights the Swingos Celebrity Inn located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio as a Rock and Roll landmark. Jim Swingos was the manager and owner of the Swingos Celebrity Inn, which was a boutique hotel that housed some of the world’s greatest musicians such as Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, and Frank Sinatra. In addition to musicians, it housed many great sports and political figures as well. This documentary will delve into the story of the Inn, those that stayed there, and the influence the Inn had on Cleveland and Rock and Roll through its time in the city. The hotel, now a Comfort Inn, stands at East 18th and Euclid. Many Clevelanders may remember it best for its restaurant on the ground floor, the Keg and Quarter.
Funds raised for this Kickstarter will allow the filmmakers to purchase and rent the needed equipment while also traveling to interview those key figures in the story who are not located in the Cleveland area. Finally, it will allow for some money for distribution to film festivals and beyond. $10,000 is the minimum amount needed to make this happen.
Risks and challenges
A film project of this magnitude faces a number of challenges for a small production company. First of all, access to the personnel that we want to interview is a challenge. Because of the overwhelming amount of support and love for Jim Swingos, many doors have already been opened. Finding a time and a place to connect with all these people also has been a challenge. Traveling to those outside of the Cleveland area takes money. This film can be an amazing Cleveland documentary, but the story is so much bigger than just Cleveland. Our hope is to be able to travel and interview a broad range of people to tell the impact that Swingos had on the world scene.
Another challenge is tracking down all the people who were such an important part of the Swingos environment. Beyond just raising money, we're also hoping that this Kickstarter will give us the publicity to help us find people who might be open to doing interviews or sharing photos from their involvement. We want to hear these stories from multiple angles, not just one or two voices.
Finally, another challenge will be not making this a documentary that is purely one interview after the next. Well that will be our primary means of gaining and presenting information, we're hoping to cast and pay actors to perform reenactments of some of the great stories that are told. We don't want to rely purely on interviews and photographs. This will help us to tell the story in a more visual manner and make use of the abundant resources that Cleveland has for actors and film crew.
All of these challenges can be overcome with just a small gift from you. Thank you for your contribution!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
