Underwater Metropolis is looking to expand the city-building experience on the mobile gaming platform and will add a lot more than just extra personality to the genre.
The city will be your living, breathing avatar representing you, the player. You will be able to assign jobs to your most talented Metropolites and build important facilities, civic centres and, of course, impressive landmarks.
Underwater Metropolis will be a refreshing change to your normal mobile gaming experience providing an ever-changing city responsive to your choices and its own environment.
Underwater Metropolis initially came together from two of our team’s seemingly unrelated interests: a love of the world’s oceans and marine life and an unhealthy desire to spam disasters on to the pre-made cities that came with SimCity 2000.
Earlier this year when we were sitting down to plan out what games we wanted to develop in 2013, we were torn between a few ideas that really meant alot to us. We turned to our friends and fans for help and asked them what they wanted to see next from us. After tallying the votes from our various web polls, Underwater was the winner by a clear margin.
We have spent our time in pre-production so far working on the art, style and character of our aquatic setting.
With a strong catalogue of concept art from our confident cartoon animators and the beginning of a smooth and energetic soundtrack, we will show you how our game feels before we get the chance to show you how the game plays.
Together, we have released 8 titles across both the iOS and Android platforms before under taking Underwater Metropolis and we feel that we have developed solid practices and a strong understanding of the mobile market to do justice to one of our dream projects!
We are currently in the pre-production phase of development on Underwater Metropolis creating the key assets and architecture to build the foundation of our game. At the beginning of next year in January, we will be feature complete entering our Alpha phase. With the Beta beginning in early spring and our planned release in April, we will be kept busy inside with our computers all winter long.
We are bringing this project to you on Kickstarter to take it from a crazy idea and turn into a crazy reality. We all know that making games takes a lot more than insomnia, though it certainly does take that .
To help us build the game, show it to world and maybe eat once or twice in the process we have come to you for help. Please back this project to show some love to a fresh, young team of developers committed to making interesting games and spreading good vibes!
We are proud to be a Kicking it Forward Project and we are promoting a healthy and respectful view of our planet’s oceans with both our game’s theme and content.
With our first $20,000 for Underwater Metropolis, we will simultaneously release the game to both iOS and Android platforms in April of 2014. If we exceed our $20,000 funding goal, we will be able to take this project even further and bring a bigger game to more people.
If we receive a massive $30,000, our first stretch goal, we will develop a tablet-specific version of Underwater Metropolis for the iPad and Android tablets.
If we are lucky enough to reach an astronomical $50,000 thanks to your generosity, we will be bringing our game to PC, Mac and OUYA to spread the excitement of the deep sea all around! We will also be bringing Underwater Metropolis to Steam via Greenlight.
Underwater Metropolis is being developed using the Unity 3D engine, making it very easy to port the game over to various platforms.
With that in mind, creating a mobile version versus a desktop version of the game isn't as straight forward as just making another version of the same game. Different platforms require different things (control schemes, setups, resolutions) which is why we have attached stretch goals to our platform releases.
We are excited to share the development of Underwater Metropolis with you the fans. The perks we have planned out are going to involve the community as much as possible in the development of the game by delivering art, music, and even discussions to help bring Underwater Metropolis to life.
We are Eleventh Level Interactive, an Independent Game Development studio based in downtown Vancouver, BC. We are all passionate gamers and creators who are excited to share our ideas with our friends, family and the rest of the world on the internets.
We come from a variety backgrounds with experiences in game design and production, 3D art and animation, television, theatre, radio and music. This would be our 9th game we have begun production on and we have no end in sight to the creative projects we look to take on in the future!
Dustin has experience working in small startups, namely working with the founders of Relic Entertainment (Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Homeworld), as well as alumni from Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and Rockstar Games. He was also a part of the team who developed the Unity game Aurora, which has over 500,000 plays on Kongregate and won 3rd place in the first ever Unity Kongregate contest. While building his own game development studio, he gained experience working with publishers from the United Kingdom and France.
Troy comes from a background in theatre, radio and music. As a lifelong gamer, he interjects the influences of his past creative experiences into each and every project with a goal of always developing a stronger skill set.
Humaira, alongside Professors from Simon Fraser University, has created Art and Animations for many mobile applications that help children with learning disabilities. She has also worked with alumni from Electronic Arts where she gained experience in narrative storytelling.
Kyle has created 3D concept models for playgrounds that are actually in the process of being built! He also has experience working on feature length animated films. To top it off, he’s a darn good chef.

Risks and challenges
Doing this game on our own is a big task. It is with your help that we can complete this project and we will be doing so with as little overhead as possible to make the most of our small budget. If we are so lucky as to reach some of our more ambitious stretch goals, we may have to reprioritize our proposed timeline to ensure we release only the most polished experience we can. There are always obstacles to be overcome during the development of any game, and to meet that challenge we will rely daily on our collective experience in software and game development and art and graphic design. We have a proven background of releasing finished projects with a quick development cycle and with our regular, consistent updates and support, our team is confident Underwater Metropolis will blow you out of the water.
Lastly, and absolutely most important to this project's success is our ridiculous love of what we do. We invite you to be a part of this awesomely aquatic adventure and help us create a truly amazing game. Thank you and we really appreciate your time!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
