About this project
Deep Space is a 2-4 player strategy game built on a unique platform. Each Player controls a colored faction, and are pitted against each other in a race to control the most planets on the board. It's a turn based game - players roll dice to move their ships, play cards, and launch attacks in order to secure planets as their own. You can find a prototype version of our rules HERE. Keep in mind, these aren't the completed graphically designed rule booklets, we just want to give backers and idea of how the game play works.
There are many different and exciting game play elements involved. Some players may choose to take an offensive route by attacking with battleships. Other players may choose to take a defensive route and try to capture planets as quickly as possible. Some players can even use guerrilla tactics and self destruct themselves to try and disrupt an opponents strategy.
Deep Space contains many elements to keep game play fresh, and replay value high:
- "Tactical" cards that players can play against each other
- "Deep Space" cards that cause negative effects on players and their strategy
- 3 types of ships, each with their own unique purpose and abilities
- Red game spaces that show where a player cannot move through, or land on
- Warp-Gates that allow players to warp across the map to another gate of the same color.
This game has been in development since the 1970's! No really... We created the idea for this game back in high school. It sat around in storage and moved with us through life until recently when we pulled it out of an old box. We realized that this game has awesome potential, the game play just works! It's simple enough for anyone to pick up yet advanced enough to require some strategy.
Obviously, we had to change certain elements, update graphics, create new rules, etc. But this game has stuck with us, and we believe that it's finally worth bringing to market so that we can share the fun with everyone else.
We have partnered with two top-notch artists who specialize in stellar graphic art. Each of our images were crafted specifically for this game and the individual elements they belong to. There are 16 unique playing cards, each with beautifully designed space-themed artwork. Along with these, there are large format graphics for the box artwork and character design. We are also partnering with several graphic designers to help design the layout and flow of our materials. We want to make sure this game looks as good as it plays.
We have carefully chosen to partner with Panda Game Manufacturing to produce our game. They have proven to be an industry leader in top-quality tabletop games. They have worked on projects like Pandemic, Rise of Empires, Summoner Wars, The Walking Dead and many more incredible games. We have chosen to split up our production into two stages.
- The Main Event - These backers will get the first production copies of Deep Space at a discounted rate. We will be working to deliver these games as early as January 2014. Copies will be limited in order to ensure timely delivery.
- The Secondary Event - These backers will receive a copy of Deep Space before it's produced for the public. We will be working to deliver these games as early as March 2014. Copies will be limited in order to ensure timely delivery.
We believe in this project, and want to see our creation come to life on your game room tables. But we need your help! We can't pay for production costs out-of-pocket, and we certainly can't produce it on our own. We've set a modest goal of $40,000 which will cover the cost of production, manufacturing, shipping, artwork, taxes, and fees accrued along the way. However, we still have a few tricks up our sleeves. We are continually working to improve the quality of the game and improve the features that you will receive with your product. If there is an abundant demand for our game and we hit our goal, we will start to release "extras" and "bonuses" that coincide with the extra funding.

Risks and challenges
We are taking every precaution to make sure that this project is a success. We want to bring something to market that is fun to play, engaging, re-playable, and polished. We have been designing and refining the game play for months getting it ready for you to enjoy, we believe that this is the cornerstone of a successful game. We are continually doing play tests with sample audiences to help balance the game play and discover potential pitfalls in game mechanics. This way, we can be sure to bring you a game that is polished and successful.
That being said, this is our first production game so bear with us. There are a lot of moving parts that need to come together in order for this to be successful, and we are ready to tackle them head on. We have contracts with established artists working on the various pieces of artwork. We have chosen to partner with an incredibly competent production house that produces top-quality merchandise. We have even put in hundreds of our own man-hours to make this project a success.
