Party of SinEver had that itching desire to tear out of the depths of hell and into the highest reaches of heaven, unleashing all of your pent up sin against demons, angels, and friends alike? Party of Sin is a coopetitive puzzle-platformer for 1-4 players on PC and Xbox 360. Eat, seduce, or sleep your way through volatile Biblical environments as one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, or Wrath. Collect a mini-arsenal of weapons and strategically execute your powers to damn opponents and manipulate the environment to solve puzzles. Look at the game through your own eyes instead of the designers’. Battles and puzzles are designed to be responsive and allow multiple solutions. Cooperation with fellow Sins is vital, but be on guard; in Party of Sin, alliances are tenuous. It’s the nature of a Sin to back-stab its friends for points, ammunition, and glory. Join a party of epic proportions that tests your ability to think from the other side of morality.
In Party of Sin, you and your friends form an unlikely team of Deadly Sins. Each Sin has a unique power and super power which can be used to solve puzzles and kill lots of angels. These powers are all radically different, inspired by the Sin, and can be used for good or evil. For example, Sloth has a bolt which will make anything it hits run in slow motion. This can be used in a puzzle to desynchronize a set of moving platforms, on enemies to make them easier to dodge, or on other Sins to trip up someone who’s causing you trouble. Wrath has a ramming attack which he can use to destroy both walls and enemies. He can also use it to push other Sins around. Super powers are even more over-the-top, with Greed turning any enemy he touches to gold and Gluttony going on a super-chomp romp and swallow anything that moves.
CoopParty of Sin can be played solo, and you will be able to swap to any sin at any time, but playing in coop allows you to use the Sin powers in fun combinations. Pull your friend up over a cliff with Greed’s hook, or give a boost by spitting out your friend with Gluttony (or, if you’re so inclined, spit them into a lava pit!). You are working together to complete levels, but also competing for angel kills and points scattered throughout the levels. Some rewards are common, like gun upgrades and puzzle achievements, while others rely on your individual skill.
On your adventure, you will travel through the biblical worlds of Hell, Purgatory, Earth and Heaven. In Hell you will break out of your prison, defeat fallen angels in the trenches and down a cave, finally riding a lava turtle to the boss. Purgatory is a mechanical world powered by the souls going through penance and features conveyor belts, crushers and sorters. Earth is a green world full of wind, ruins, templars and ghosts. Finally Heaven is a high-tech city in the sky where you will fight your the fiercest enemies yet: Exo-suit Angels, the Seven Heavenly Virtues, and Gabriel himself.
We put a lot of work into the combat of Party of Sin. The game currently contains 20 unique weapons including a machine gun, shotgun, grenade launcher, MIRV, Holy Death Ray and lightning gun. Each gun has upgrades which can be purchased at the team shop between each level. Angels, your main enemy, are an impressive force that will work together to take you down. Angels take cover, kite you with crossbows and throw grenades. Some Angels will function as medics or carry shields for cover. Advanced commando angels will take to the skies and swoop down at you with their swords. World-specific enemies like demons and templars will add an additional challenge.
Puzzles in Party of Sin are open-ended and make use of the various Sin powers. At first, simple combinations will get you through, but as you progress further from Hell, you will actually have to think about how to combine your powers effectively. Each Sin can be used differently in puzzles. Pride can use his sword-dash to perform a long jump, Envy can use her eye-laser to light trigger-torches, Lust can create entirely new platforms, etc. If a puzzle proves too difficult, you can always bypass it by ringing the Battle Bell and fighting a horde of angels. Solving all the puzzles is necessary for 100% completion though!
Technical StuffParty of Sin is built on a custom engine powered by XNA. We have a suite of level editing tools built in MAX Script (runs on 3ds max 2010). We are offering these tools as a reward for the more technically inclined. With the level editing tools you can build battles and puzzles using our Entity Event system. Be warned, these are real game-design tools, we never said they’d be easy to use!
Why Kickstarter?So far Party of Sin has been entirely self-funded by the members of our team. We all contribute our free time and money to complete this game and bring it to you. We really want to make Party of Sin a success, but we need your help to complete it. Many members of our team don’t have jobs and money is tight.
The money you pledge will go towards many of our expenses including licensing, hardware, travel/booths at conferences, localization, feeding the developers and bringing Party of Sin to new platforms.
Up to $8,000: Our minimum funding objective. We’ll be able to finish the game on time with our current feature set for PC
Up to $15,000: The extra money will allow us to bring on new developers and buy the software and resources we need to increase the quality of the game. We will invest in additional content and game modes.
Beyond $15,000: We will invest in ports of the game to other platforms. This would mean contacting publisher and translating the game to C++ so we can run it on PS3 and Xbox 360. This is a really considerable amount of work and would only happen after the PC version is released.
Remember, Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing deal. If we can’t reach our $8,000 goal in the 42 days allocated, we won’t get anything!
