Who Are We?
We are Two Friars and a Fool. We write foolish and sometimes clever things about God, church, culture, ethics, life and whatever else we feel like writing about.
We're very proud of the book we wrote together: Never Pray Again: Lift Your Head, Unfold Your Hands, And Get To Work. It is being published by Chalice Press in April 2014. Books don't promote themselves, and when we were discussing different ways to spread the word about our book we came up with a bunch of ideas that took on a life of their own.
The most significant of these ideas is the Never Pray Again Coloring Book, which is what this Kickstarter is intended to help us produce. But the Coloring Book is really just the beginning, as you can find out by looking at the stretch goals below.
Why We Are Doing This?
Aside from the obvious costs to print and distribute the Coloring Book and all of the other awesome rewards we have planned (seriously, see below), we are hoping this Kickstarter will help us raise some funds to do some of the following:
- Re-design twofriarsandafool.com
- Produce a professional trailer for Never Pray Again
- Upgrade some of our equipment (cameras, microphones, software)
- Travel to a few conventions to promote our work
Also, we totally owe the artist, Will Meacham, fat stacks of cash.
What's In It For Me?
You get the satisfaction of aiding and abetting our irreverence. As if that weren't enough, you also get the Never Pray Again Coloring Book with page after page of helpful guidance for not praying when almost anything else would be more useful. The Coloring Book also contains activity pages with mazes and a word search. Other rewards like signed prints and custom portraits are available depending on the pledge level you select.
To really get the most out of this kickstarter you need to get your friends to pledge so that we can unlock some of the stretch goals we have planned. We have a variety of rewards, many of which are digital and automatically granted to everyone who pledges to this kickstarter once we unlock them. We'd also like to shower you with some nifty swag like coasters, t-shirts, and even an original comic-book featuring the least-helpful super-hero ever: I'll Pray For You Man. To get the extra goods you will have to raise your pledge a little to pay for the item you want or, even better, raise your pledge to the $100 "All The Things" level.

Who's The Fool?
It is a problem that has plagued humanity since the dawn of about 3 years ago. Of the 3 gentlemen behind Two Friars and a Fool, which one of them is the Fool? It is time this riddle had an answer. An answer you provide.
Everyone who pledges to this kickstarter will get to take part in a series of divination rituals (polls) designed to ferret out whether it is Aric, or Nick, or Doug who is to be scorned and ridiculed.
There will be a cost for the loser (winner?) of this poll. The person elected by the crowd for humiliation will have to fulfill some very silly promises on camera for the world to witness. The severity of their embarrassment will increase as the total of your pledges increases and it is even possible we may seek your wisdom concerning how to make their punishment worse (funnier). So pledge generously, because your generosity will become someone's lasting shame.
Risks and challenges
You're probably thinking, "These are just three guys. None of them are even real Friars! How do I know they can make a really cool coloring book (and comic book, and everything else)?" Good question.
The answer is that we have been collaborating together for about eight years, and have produced tons of quality material online for free together. Plus, you're not relying on our talents. The coloring and comic book are being printed by the professionals at Chalice Press. The other rewards are all being made by reputable manufacturers, and we're making every effort to be sure this stuff is well within our capabilities to handle distribution. Collectively, the three of us have been active on Kickstarter, and this is not our first project. One of us has already run, or been part of, two successful kickstarter campaigns. So this is not our first trip to the rodeo. (One of us has actually ridden in a rodeo. Crazy.)
There will of course be some hiccups, but we promise to keep you well-informed and amused.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
