NEW REWARDS ADDED! (A3 original unique watercolour paintings)
MUGSHOT : Painting the least wanted is a new exhibition comprising a large selection of original oil paintings, prints, drawings and film based on 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s American police mugshots
Hi, my name is Oliver Winconek, I have worked as a self employed professional Artist for 13 years now and my work switches between painting to commission and creating new work for exhibitions and shows. For a while now I have been researching various projects that have led me to become fascinated by vintage police mugshots.
I became aware of a book by the american Graphic Designer Mark Michaelson called Least wanted. It showcases a selection of photos and police records that were purchased at auction. Mark kindly agreed to me using his photos as inspiration for a few paintings, in turn this became the basis for the planning of an exhibition.
I have chosen to paint people on the edge of society, those in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some of the 'crimes' commited such as homosexuality are no longer considered illegal today and I am fascinated by changing attitudes and shifting tolerances together with mistakes in judgement that led to the subjects being arrested.
New rewards added! I've just completed 5 new original A3 watercolour paintings - unique to this Kickstarter campaign at the special price of only £175 each!
Original Oil paintings
The format of the Police mugshot is a quick, unplanned, unrehearsed moment in time. I love the immediacy of them and I have carried that feeling into the paintings, working wet into wet using oils with each piece coated in gloss resin to mimic the sheen of a photograph. The exhibition will also showcase large-scale charcoal drawings, pencil sketches, prints and film.
As part of the exhibition, I will be screening the excellent 2014 documentary; MUGSHOT directed by Dennis Mohr and presenting an Artists Q&A session.
The exhibition itself will take place for a month towards the end of the year and all of the work funded by the Kickstarter campaign will be on display before it is sent to their respective owners. The show will be open to the general public along with several Kickstarter exclusive events during it's run.
I am so passionate about this exhibition and it has been a huge labour of love so far and now I need your help to take it to the next level and turn it into a reality. Please pledge whatever you can and even if money is tight it would be fantastic if you could forward it onto your friends.
I massively appreciate all your help and support,
Thank you, Oliver
Risks and challenges
I have been a full time Artist for 13 years now and I am well used to creating artwork for largescale shows and exhibitions. I don't foresee any problems completing this project providing it meets it's funding targets.
I have chosen a gallery venue with a great reputation, the venue is booked and so much is already pencilled in.
