Jackson C Frank is a name few people know. His life, to us, is a tale to tell. If you have heard of him, you might already sense a link between his songs and the tragic life he led. A traumatic childhood event - on a snowy day in Buffalo - haunted him all his life. We have been amazed by his songs, and touched by what people had to say about him. Jackson C. Frank deserves the compassion, understanding, and recognition he lacked throughout his life.
A few words from Damien Aimé Dupont :
When I started to work on this film in 2014, there was very little information about Jackson C. Frank. There were no books about this great musician, just a few websites with inconsistent or contradictory information. I had to locate and contact his relatives one by one. They all trusted us and supported us all during the project, especially Jim Abbott, the man who rescued him from the NYC streets in the 1990s. During the past four years we looked for investors, but we were met with reluctance. Nobody wanted to support the project, Jackson C. Frank wasn’t famous enough and his life was too tragic… However, as a filmmaker and music lover, I felt that had to shed light on the life of this talented man with such a tragic destiny. Driven by passion, I gathered a team of talented people. With my own money, we traveled the USA and UK several times to investigate and meet Jackson’s friends. We have wonderful images and very emotionally-charged interviews - the rushes are simply exceptional. We managed toobtain unique files that —until now—have been unreleased to the public. We are not just making another biography. Almost nothing remains of Jackson C. Frank, and yet, you will discover a unique and uncompromising personality, broken by tragedies. There is no final redemption here, but you will find beauty at every time. Listen to his music, and you will understand.
Damien Aimé Dupont's bio : After earning a bachelor's degree and a masters degree in cinema in Paris, I worked in the television and cinema for a couple of years. I wrote a science-fiction series Hyper Nuit for FranceTélévision (a popular public TV channel). This work received a financial aid from SACD (société des auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques, an organization which assists authors). I also made Jean Rollin: The Stray Dreamer, a film that has been presented with success in numerous film festivals in France and internationally. It was released on DVD in Europe and bought by CNC (Centre National du Cinéma - National Cinema Center, a public organization).
We have been deep in research for the last couple of years. We travelled (at least 5000 miles), we've met many people, we've called many people, and wee have been helpedgraciously by Jackson’s relatives. We have been followed by a great community of Jackson C. Frank fans who have kept us going. But we have reached the end of our rope financially.
WHY WE ARE CROWDFUNDING : This project is very personal to us. We looked for TV investors, but they were not interested in the project because of it’s style - it simply didn’t fit. So we put our own money into the film. It has been very difficult to work on this project without money. But once the film is done, we know it will be a huge success. We need to show investors, film festivals, TV networks, and others that people care about this film being made. We need to prove that there is an audience of people who care about Jackson C. Frank’s story.
We have made two trips from France to the US, we have driven 5,000 miles, and we traveled to the UK. There are only two things that we have to do next :
- We have to go to London. Jackson lived there and we have people to meet and places to film. Not a big trip, maybe two days, but we have to go there.
- We have to go into post-production.
Editing, sound editing, music recordings, colour grading. The most important piece is renting an editing room for around 20 days. The BBC is also selling us a 10 second video of Jackson playing in London, and of course, this must be in the film.
THis GOAL IS A MINIMUM : It would surely help us go further, but not finish the movie. We would need more to really complete it. Finishing this movie is a challenge, but we will never give up.
The more you can help us, the easier it will be for us to finish the movie. If you have been following us all these years, you know how much this means to us. We want to finish the film. We want to share this story with people. We’re not asking a lot—and with your help donating and sharing with others who would, I know we can finish the film.
We have met many of Jackson's relatives, and we want to thank them by honoring his memory.

Risks and challenges
The goal we puted is a minimum goal so we can go further. But we actually need more to complete the movie.
This whole movie is a challenge. Travelling through different countries, finding the right people, locating hidden archives... We have had many discoveries during production and that has led to some setbacks.
But we will absolutely finish the movie. We want it to be done in the best way possible, and having more money would mean a better post-production with a proper space and proper tools to edit the movie.
