Sweet B unrefined is getting ready to move into a bigger kitchen and our 5 shelf dehydrator is getting kind of cramped... Also, to keep our products in their own vegan confinement, a new freezer is needed.
Why YOU should care:
I am doing this because today we are a culture of people that put whatever is packed and set on a shelf in our bodies... we flock to quick fixes and diet pills and cholesterol medication and have been fighting with depression and eating disorders. Back when we were just fighting for survival as a race, the craving for sugar was helpful, we found fruits... ate them and lived. I feel we have gotten out of control with taking this love of natural sweetness and modifying our foods, and I really can't understand why. The moment I had my first raw vegan cheesecake I realized how amazing REAL food and AUTHENTIC sweetness can be; once I gave up refined sugars and flours, I noticed a huge change in my mood and outlook. From all my research, the most convincing argument is rational thought - how do we expect our bodies to process foods they don't recognize? How can we put artificial colors and preservatives into "food" and think our bodies can figure out how to incorporate that into energy?
This company is my small way of trying to create a better world for the next generation, trying to use whole food products and show people how delicious they can be... trying to change just one mind, and maybe create a snowball into a whole diet of healthy plant based or paleo type eating... I think everyone in the food industry picks their nemesis... Mine is sugar, I hate it and what it does to us.
To get these desserts out there... I need a more shelf stable product to be able to reach more people. Pie crusts are our new venture and to create more, we need more space.
I grew up in Central PA and it has taken me 30 odd years to get to a point where, as I mentioned, I realize how I feel is directly related to what I allow into my life… food and desserts are no exception – but there is no way in hell I am going to give up cookies and treats and I don't want people to give up on Sweet B unrefined if we can't make enough raw, vegan, gluten-free, no refined sugar containing amazingness!
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges to this business are the risks that come with growth. We will be addressing increased capacity, increased shipping challenges and need to create better labeling and packaging. All of these are in the works... currently in talks with printers, and I have faith in our eco-friendly packaging partners that they have what it takes!
The raw vegan dessert niche is filling up as I type... so there are other players vying for our market space. Costs, regulations, and I guess people could not love cookies and desserts as much as I have been lead to believe in the past 5 years I have been creating them? I will just keep doing what I do, believing in creating the best possible product out there!
