By publishing this Anthology we hope to give a voice to some local, talented authors!

Authors

Our goal is to showcase the talent of local authors.

The following Authors have works included in the anthology: Brian Parham, Rob Lee, Alex Davis, Wesley Hirons, Janelle Lamoreaux, Samantha J Saldivar, Jean Dion, Justin Price, Tammy Branom, Darlene Forsman, Oktay Ege Kozak, Chuck Dorsey, Mindee Deal, and Brendon Lamoreaux.

The Stories:

The following is a list and short description of the short stories included in the anthology!

A Walk In The Woods                                                                  Rob Lee

A man, in denial about how troubled he is, goes for a hike in a landscape both elevating and unforgiving. His innate, but shallow, fatalism is confronted by cold reality, sweeping him toward a salvation he didn’t know he wanted.

Buckets full of Blackberries                                         Tammy A. Branom

When widow Anna Beck goes out for her annual blackberry picking trip, she finds more in the patches of luscious berries than she expected.

Sega, Coal, and the Infinite Joys or Sorrow                         Brian Parham

It's not the things we want that doom us, but the things we have that spell our demise. "Sega, Coal, and the Infinite Joys of Sadness . . . " is a story about an impoverished little boy who realizes his deepest desire--a Sega Genesis--and the tragedy that ensues. Ultimately, it's an intrepid tale of violence, abuse, and redemption.

Carmine                                                                         Oktay Ege Kozak

Carmine is a frustrated painter given up on life after failing to make a living off of his art. While locking up the art gallery he begrudgingly works for, he hears an ominous voice from his walkie-talkie claiming to be God.

The Journey                                                                   Darlene Forsman

The journey is a compilation of memories from childhood visits to the Gorge dating back to the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. While I-84 was new, and the Oregon State Highway was still a popularly-used thoroughfare, we traveled on both routes (on the Oregon side) during my childhood. The Interstate conveys a sense of speed as it’s a straight shot from west to east; but the old highway provides greater accessibility to many smaller falls and differing viewpoints.

The Fifth Day                                                            Brendon Lamoreaux

A woman spreads the word of the return of her son from jail. She prepares her home to provide for him and his 'fresh start'. As the day approaches her excitement and anticipation grows.

The Ever Present Smell of Shit                                              Mindee Deal

This piece was written for a mature audience, mature enough to appreciate immaturity. The Ever-Present Smell of Shit is a comically tragic tale of love lost. The descent from euphorically felt affection to the undiplomatic detestation of one another is told through a series of highlights from the ill fated relationship between Matt and Mandi.
