AutoBar is a Multi-bar mod that automatically adds potions, water, food, quest and other items you specify into buttons for easy use. Does not use up action slots. You can create your own categories of items, dragging items from bags, or spells from spell books into it. You can make custom Buttons that contain 1 or more Custom or Built-in categories and create custom Bars to organize your Buttons to suit your interface needs. WoW has thousands of items you may obtain. AutoBar automatically organizes frequently used items for you, saving you the drudgery of dragging stuff from your bags to an action bar. Since AutoBar does not use up the limited action slots available, you can save those for your spells and abilities.
AutoBar has been around since 2007 and I've been its sole developer since 2010.
Every expansion, Blizzard makes significant changes to the Addon API which often breaks addons; Legion is no exception.
Many spells that did exist are either removed or heavily modified. They made significant changes to how Mounts work (again). And of course they added the new class: Demon Hunter.
In addition to the upfront changes, there are a lot of ongoing changes as new items are added during the life of an expansion.
I am asking for enough money to cover buying WoW (CE Edition), and 12 months of subscription, plus a bit to cover Kickstarter's overhead.
For the Artifact level of support, here are a couple examples of what you can expect:
All backers will get access to AutoBar before the general public. This guarantees that you will have a better version on the day Legion goes live.
If we reach $400:
- I'll add the ability to show useful icons for custom macro buttons
- I'll add a Qijari filter to the mounts, 'cuz who wants those available most of the time?
If we reach $1500:
- Battle Pets
- Toy Box
These will take a lot of work and testing, so they wouldn't be ready for the launch of Legion, but would be available a few months after.
If we reach $2750: Web site overhaul!
- Better forums, including the ability to post using your social media/battle.net id rather than having to create yet another user account.
- User documentation. The basics are pretty simple, but once you start playing with customizing AutoBar it can get a little complicated. I'd detail what all of the buttons are, what all of the categories are, and how to use all of them to their full potential.
This would be a few months of work as well, and backers would get to vote on whether the documentation or the Toy/Pet work was done first.
Risks and challenges
I now have access to the Beta, so I've already started looking at the changes required. There's a fair bit to do, but it's not too difficult, mostly just time-consuming.
Of course I have no control over what Blizzard does. It is unlikely that they would make more significant changes to the API at this point, but it's not impossible. This could reduce or even nullify the functionality of AutoBar or any other addon.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
