We got many requests urging us to upgrade HDMI so as to fully utilize Cinera’s 2.5K ultra high resolution displays. We heard you. Based on our engineering team’s evaluation, it CAN BE DONE! We are working to upgrade Cinera’s HDMI from 1.4a to 1.4b, which supports 2.5K resolution input.
However, this is still a preliminary analysis, which requires further reviewing and testing. We will release a final update before the campaign ends, so our backers can make a final decision then. But we suggest you to pledge as soon as possible, as the super early bird units are almost all gone.
We also like the OLED display technology, but right now there is no mass produced OLED screens with 2.5K resolution available. With a 1080p display, Cinera’s PPD (Pixel Per Degree) will drop to 29 while retaining the same FOV. Display with PPD below 30 will exhibit severe screen door effect, which we believe is not worth the other benefits that OLED may bring.
In cinema industry, professionals pursue accuracy rather than impression. Everything on the screen needs to be precisely recreating what director wants to present, no more and no less. We share the same belief, and CINERA's screen is high quality and fine tuned for such purpose.
