SoS is a science fiction fantasy adventure game. Your character hears the distress call from a support armada on a mission to deliver supplies to suffering planets. The ships were ambushed by the Gorkrun with your father on board! To avoid total defeat, the ships split up, with many crash landing on various planets. You are the only person nearby who hears the SOS message; it is up to you to answer the call.
The universe is full of mystery and adventure. While many fear and run from the Gorkrun, the young and hopeful Kit takes them to battle. You will uncover origins of the Gorkrun and stories of a war between humans and machines; all while searching for your father and rescuing the innocent.
- MAP GENERATION
SoS allows players to build procedurally generated worlds. You have entire control over the land mass, temperature, mountains, sea levels, rivers, and foliage. Using these tools, you can jump from planet to planet rescuing the captive survivors and uncover the whereabouts of your father. To find and rescue the survivors, you must decipher clues to locate the type of planet they are on.
SoS is a fast paced first person shooter that gives you choices on how to fight. When you find the survivors, you will see them captured by the Gorkrun. Several enemies will be guarding these captives. Decide to fight these guards guns a-blazing, or take a more advantageous position to surprise them.
Once the guards are scrap, you will begin your evacuation call to get your survivors to safety. Enemies will be alerted to your evacuation signal and waves of Gorkrun will rush to your position. Protecting the innocent survivors is your priority, so fight off the Gorkrun till you're able to safely evacuate the survivors.
Learn how to set up blockades and traps to deal with increasingly powerful enemies. Disable and hijack Gorkrun to fight on your side. Aim carefully, Gorkruns' legs and arms can be targeted and disabled to prevent them from fighting. At this point, their main purpose in life is to be the last thing you see before they explode, so try not to die.
The worlds that you create are large. There is plenty of exploring to do on your way to locating the survivors. Hunt for ruins created by the ancient Gate Keepers, and then find the powerful artifacts to unlock the powers inside. These artifacts will also reveal some of the secrets of the universe.
Helping people is a good thing! As you rescue people, some of them offer you upgrades as a reward for saving their life. Saving technicians, doctors, engineers, and veterans will all help you in different ways. Learn to aim better from the veterans, and fortitude from the doctors. Get rewarded by the engineers with a hoverbike to traverse the terrain faster.
- EXPAND YOUR SPACESHIP
Your spaceship serves as your base of operation in the game. As you continue to save more people, you will need more room on your ship. Certain survivors will help upgrade different parts of your ship.
What could be better than saving people and taking out robots? Doing it with your friends! SoS offers local split screen multiplayer with controller support; take that Halo 5. We will also have online multiplayer. You will be able to invite your friends to join your session by hosting It on your computer. But be careful, two of you means more of them! Make sure you're ready for tougher enemies, and more firepower. Are you up to the challenge?
The Gorkrun are the main enemy type that you encounter in SOS Atlas. Each of them have their own unique personalities and fighting styles. They were created by the humans one hundred and fifty years ago, designed to protect and serve the humans. They were loyal and strong, replacing most of the solar systems' standing army. All was well until a virus infiltrated the brains of the Gorkruns, making them violent and rebellious beasts. They've destroyed entire planets and left many others in ruins.
Here is a breakdown for all of our rewards. Each reward tier stacks up with the one before it.
Third Gate Studios was founded by Corey and Wesley after they won the interactive category in the Vineyard Ronen Beckerman Challenge. When we started this project, we made some additions to the team. Meet them down below!
Wesley – 26 years old, Wes is our technical genius. A master of UE4 and an artist of blueprints. Pretty much the dude who makes all things happen.
Corey – 22 years old, Corey is our well-rounded star. Pretty good at everything Corey is a powerhouse on this project! He is also a huge troll.
Nicole – 22 years old, Nicole is the only person who has any real talent when it comes to art.
Clifford - 21 years old, Clifford (CJ) is a business student at Cal State Fullerton and longtime gaming friend of Corey. He joined the team to help with whatever was needed.
Victor Bartolomei - 22 years old, Victor is an excellent, later, addition to the team. Victor helped out with some 3d modeling. If you like the Hover Bike and Drop Ship, that's him!
Our goal is to ensure that we can deliver on this project with our grassland and desert environments. The amount we are asking for will give us the ability to spend more time working on SOS Atlas. As well as provide us the necessary capital to upgrade some of our machines. We will continue to work our "day jobs" to provide most of the funds for this game. Our goal will allow us to spend less time at the day job and more time on our dream jobs.
60% - Will go back into the development of the game and some of the more general expenses we incur such as rent.
15% - Will be used for marketing the game for when we go onto Steam Greenlight and release promotion.
10% - Kickstarter takes 5% from all successful campaign, and the payment system takes another 3-5%
5% - The sound and music for SOS Atlas is crucial to us. We have been working with some local musicians, but we hope to bring in some more sound professionals.
SoS is our first game in development at Third Gate Studios, and most of us are still in school. It is our dream to work on videos games and with the support of backers like you, we can make that dream a reality. We have been working multiple odd jobs to fund this project ourselves, but now it is time to take it to the next step. With your support, we can spend more time creating this game to make it something special and unique. Kickstarter is also a perfect place for us to build a community, get feedback, and answer questions!
Unreal Engine was a perfect fit for our type of game. The main feature of SOS Atlas is its procedural generation. We believe the best way to tell our story is to let players solve a new challenge each time. With that said, we also believe graphical fidelity shouldn’t be sacrificed, so an engine with a robust dynamic rendering capability is needed. The Unreal Engine offers a sweet spot between our two beliefs. Without using any light baking, our procedurally generated map still looks good at any time of day or weather conditions. Another reason is the friendliness of the Unreal Engine community and the excellent documentation. The openness between the UE4 developers and its users is evidencet that the Engine will continue to help us realize our vision for the game.
Risks and challenges
Risks: Game Development always presents risks and challenges. Since we are a young team, we have to keep everything within a reasonable scope. We understand our strengths, and we understand what we lack in resources. It is very important to us that everything that we say will be in the game is possible for us to achieve. Everything that we announce is something that we have discussed in great detail to ensure that we do not make any false promises.
We also haven't earned any respect in the industry, and we don't have any big names attached to our project. This is our chance to prove to the industry and ourselves that we can deliver on a fun and completed video game.
With the help of backers like you, we will be able to turn our dream of working on video games into a reality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
