LEDpedal expression and volume pedals are borne from the simple idea that you should be able to see your pedals and see where they're set.
Optional 10-LED display indicates exact pedal position from zero to ten.
LEDpedal is a must for live show players!
- Deliver your best performance - start every song, verse, chorus and solo off with confidence and the right volume and expression settings
Up until now musicians concerned about a polished performance could only take their best guess at adjusting their instrument volume or their standard volume or expression pedal, often with less than ideal results.
- Under treadle, soft/warm white LED lighting ensures visibility allowing you to better land your foot in dim or dark ambient lighting conditions
- Optional 3 color 10 LED display clearly shows exact pedal position and connects by standard 1/8" male/male TRS cable (supplied)
Perfect size and height to fit with your other pedals - locate anywhere !
- Locate the pedal unit anywhere without restrictions, wasted space or compromises
- Locate the LED display module anywhere - to the left, right or above the pedal unit, or sitting directly on top of your keyboard - in the case of expression input control, place next to the effect being controlled or even lie sideways on top of patch cables so it takes no space at all
- The optional LED display has adjustable brightness for dim or bright lighting conditions and an 11th LED (green) to indicate power is on
- Heavy steel base plate for sturdy, 'bottom heavy' feel
- Super strong "stompbox" type die cast housing and pedal/treadle
- Uses super tough hinge with stainless steel hinge pin
- Passive design using high quality pots, jacks and gears
- MADE in, and shipped from USA
A primary goal of this Kickstarter project and product pre-launch is to raise awareness of our product within a community of early adopters. Its a great opportunity to gauge market reaction and get your input.
Launching LEDpedal products within the Kickstarter community gives us a unique opportunity to be closely linked to our first customers. It gives us a chance to get valuable feedback during the campaign as well as long term overall product feedback after the campaign. We invite you to keep in touch with us directly any time in the future and if you support our successful campaign we will ask you if we can do the same.
What will we do with the funds raised?
It's also our goal of course to raise funds through this campaign. We hope to raise a minimum of $6000 CDN (approx. $4700 USD) to fund minor tooling, production jigs, an initial batch of the three different custom fabricated metal brackets and the printed circuit board that are required by each LEDpedal to do it's thing.
Any funds raised beyond and up to double of our Kickstarter target will be used to purchase higher volumes of custom and "off the shelf" parts inventory to reduce our per unit component costs. This will put us in a good position to effectively be able to service new on line retailer accounts and ensure we can grow with minimized risk of having gaps in our stock availability.
Any funds raised beyond double of our Kickstarter target will be used to have a 1 to 2 minute promotional video professionally made and will allow us to increase our marketing budget so that we can increase our visibility on reseller's web sites, Facebook and Google Ads where that expenditure and exposure gets the best results.
When do you get your reward?
All rewards will be shipped early April, 2018. That gives us 55+ days from the end of our Kickstarter campaign to complete production and ensure that all products meet with my full approval. Longest lead time parts will be ordered prior to the end of our Kickstarter campaign. Progress update messages will be sent to all campaign supporters every 7 to 10 days.
What's in the box?
Each box shipped will include the promised product, plus a personal thank you card and VIP invitation for life time direct from LEDpedal purchase privilege. This will give you a life time 20% off any direct from LEDpedal purchase!
If receiving one of the two models that includes the external LED display, a 12" long, 1/8" male/male TRS cable is supplied.
A 9VDC typical adapter is required for operation of the LED pedal lighting system and for use of the external LED display module but is not required for volume and expression control. (9VDC adapter is not supplied)
Features, durability and something extra!
I've been involved in design and manufacturing of industrial and consumer components and products for 30 years and have played guitar even longer. So when I first sat down with pencil to paper to come up with the design concept, I had a long list of requirements that an expression or volume pedal had to meet and a short, time proven list of design priorities.
Features: Capability, Usability, Flexibility
First, the pedal had to be well suited to todays pedal set ups. It had to integrate well into any floor pedal system whether "loose" pedals at home on carpet or hardwood, or attached to a tour grade pedal board. It had to be the right footprint size and height to give total location felixibility to open up new options for expression and volume pedal locations in your effects chain.
The LEDpedals are smaller size but still large enough to be very useable especially since its intended purpose is more that of a setting pedal rather than an emotive pedal like a wah-wah that ideally might best be full sized. The LEDpedal's footprint is typical of a standard stomp box but the treadle is the right height to allow your foot to be just above the height of the knobs and footswitches on nearby pedals. The size allows integration into your pedal system using only one row height of space like your other pedals rather than two rows like typical full sized volume and expression pedals.
IDEAL FOR CARPET, HARD FLOORS or PEDAL BOARDS:
LEDpedals can use provided large square stick on foot pads that are equally well suited to carpet or hard floors. Or the foot pads can be left off and supplied 3M Dual Lock strips can be used to affix your LEDpedal to your pedal board and are far more stable and secure than Velcro.
Secondly, the pedal had to be tough, reliable and have a long service life. It had to be strong enough to step on and kick and had to last a life time of use. It had to have a durable housing and treadle and use high quality components. Audio quality is a long standing passion of mine, so the small amount of audio components in the volume pedal models (jacks and potentiometer) are hand wired with high grade copper wire.
All jacks, pots and other components are top quality and have been endurance tested. The rack (straight linear gear) and pinion (round tubular gear) are both readily available, high quality 'wah pedal' replacement components. The linear rack gear is held in the ideal position by being positioned laterally by nylon roller spacers on both sides of the rack gear as well as behind the rack gear to ensure its always on track with minimized wear.
Something extra! An added feature to take it a step beyond:
And finally I thought, it sure would be nice if you could set the pedal easily and with confidence and know exactly where it's set using a separate LED position display meter. The 11 LED display (10 for level and 1 for power) can be located on either side of the pedal, or if using expression pedal can be located remotely near the pedal that it's controlling. The display can of course also be centrally located somewhere on your pedal board where it fits best or next to additional LED display modules in a multiple LEDpedal set up. The LED display/meter module connects to the pedal unit by a standard 1/8" mini stereo headphone cable. A conveniently located adjustment knob allows you to adjust the LED display brightness level for low or high ambient light levels.
Three LEDpedal models to choose from:
EXP-VP; Expression and Volume (no LED display). 500K pot, 1/4" input and output jacks for volume and 1/8" mini TRS, 10K output for expression control. MSRP after Kickstarter campaign: $129 CDN ($105 US) with an expected "street price" of $119 CDN (99 US).
LED-EXP; Expression pedal with LED display/meter. 10K pot, 1/4" TRS output for expression control and 1/8" TRS output for LED pedal position display unit. MSRP after Kickstarter campaign: $175 CDN ($145 US) with an expected "street price" of $159 CDN ($135US).
LED-VP; Volume pedal with LED display/meter. 500K pot, 1/4" input and output jacks for volume and 1/8" mini TRS output for LED pedal position display unit. MSRP after Kickstarter campaign: $175 CDN ($145 US) with an expected "street price" of $159 CDN ($135 US).
What are the differences between the products shown and the final production version?
Please note that the LEDpedal products that are shipped as campaign rewards will be final production versions.
All photos on this page are of photos of pre-production prototypes. The final production versions will have a slightly different shade, sheen or texture of the gray housing paint finish once exact manufacturer and color are selected (before end of Kickstarter campaign). Prototype shown is painted with "wet paint" finish. Final product will be thermoset powder coat finishes (white and gray). Gray color will be called "gun metal gray metallic" and could be satin (preferably), semi-gloss or gloss sheen.
The final product may include two blue LEDs in addition to the two warm white LEDs and an internal switch to select color. This would allow you for instance to set blue to be for expression pedals and white to be for volume pedal(s). Or just have all pedals light up the color you prefer.
The final product will have its signal input and output jacks (on the left and right side of the pedals) 1/8" to 3/16" (3-5mm) higher off the ground than the prototypes shown. This places the patch cable plugs higher than most neighboring pedals so that the two patch cable plugs can avoid the same space and allow closer side to side pedal spacing.
The rear face (toe end) of the housing will be white silkscreen ink labeled or direct UV white/color ink printed as shown in the second photo set near the top of the page. Labeling will include LEDpedal logo, model name/number and connector designations such as input, output, DC power, and LED display output.
The LED display/meter module will have a silkscreened or direct UV color ink printed front face graphic that includes LEDpedal logo, model name, and possibly other decorative details like lines.
One of the reasons that we decided to launch and pre-sell LEDpedal products on Kickstarter, is that we would love to have your input, opinions and feedback. Please let us know if you have any concerns or ideas that would help us make LEDpedal products even better.
Thank you for your input and support!
Risks and challenges
As the product designer and campaign creator, I feel very comfortable characterizing this project as extremely low risk for our campaign supporters.
There is NO technical or functionally significant design uncertainties.
All components have been sourced and quoted, pending any minor design revisions and have or will have multiple sources.
With over 30 years experience in the areas of design, manufacturing and production, this project is well within my technical expertise and comfort zone. I also bring 15 years of technical department management and general business operations experience . (Please see my personal profile for details)
The product's initial design was done in SolidWorks as detailed solid models and component assemblies so that very careful design, component fit and production tolerance analysis could done before first prototype was built.
The first priority for spending funds raised will be the purchase of all of the components required to fully satisfy all of our campaign supporters exactly as per our rewards promises. This first production run will be fully assembled, wired and tested by myself personally. This will enable me to confidently confirm all design parameters and ensure that all of our quality, performance and reliability objectives are being met to my 100% satisfaction.
Our minimum fundraising goal that we are seeking allows us to easily satisfy 100% of our rewards promises. Other than in case of extreme personal tragedy, there is zero chance that all supporters will not receive the rewards that are promised.
You have my personal promise and my word on that.
Thanks sincerely for your consideration and trust.
