About this project
For those of us who enjoy Chet Zar's work there is something that we relate to rooted within the dark subject matter. I find the vision of his art sends me to a familiar dream place, a bizarre landscape inhabited by monstrous creatures. Sometimes gruesome, periodically funny, but always thought provoking, Chet's art is at once as enigmatic as it is frightening. But what about the man behind the paintbrush? Who is Chet Zar and why does he like to paint monsters? This is one of the primary questions at the heart of the documentary.
I asked and he granted - he has allowed me unprecedented access to explore his life and his career, from his early artistic beginnings, to his special FX in the film industry, and finally to his fine art. I will travel to California to interview his friends, family, colleagues, and of course the man himself. He will escort me on a tour of his hometown and his teenage haunts. I will document his process of creation and the galleries where he shows. Among other things, I will attempt to answer the question previously posed.
So how do you play into this? Well first of all, without you there is no documentary! Your support and pledges will ensure that the documentary succeeds, and will be used to purchase equipment, fund travel, secure studio time and ultimately facilitate the entire process from pre to post production. Chet has been generous enough to donate not only his time, but also his art to the reward packages, so aside from the gratification of knowing that you brought this project to life, as well as special credit in the documentary itself, you will be able to choose from a variety of tiered "Monster" rewards, from Carnivalesque to Macabre to Legendary. Choose to be an “Oddity”, “Freak”, “Mutant”, “Zombie”, “Behemoth”, or “Leviathan”. You will have the opportunity to collect postcards, DVD's, t-shirts, original sketches, Paper and Canvas Giclees, and original Chet Zar paintings, including a solo monster portrait of yourself!
What it's really about
Although it’s nice to get something to put on your wall or on your shelf, I believe that most people who support this project will be doing so for the satisfaction of knowing that they helped breathe life into the documentary, and because they love Chet’s work and want to support him! Please understand that although the budget has been set, this is the absolute minimum amount of money that it will take to achieve the basic goals – any amount above and beyond this will guarantee that the documentary becomes what it is truly destined to be.
So please take a moment to peruse the Monster tiered reward gallery, watch the video, enjoy the pictures, and ponder your involvement in a documentary about a guy who likes to paint monsters!
Note: Pictures featured in the Kickstarter project may not be those offered as rewards! Feel free to email any questions concerning rewards, expected delivery dates, etc. to email@example.com

If you are interested in a limited edition tier, as well as another higher tier, simply pledge to one, create and additional Kickstarter user (which you can link to the same Amazon account), and then pledge again.
I live outside the United States; when pledging do I add on the extra shipping costs? What if I forgot?
The answer is "Yes"; you would simply select the reward level that you are interested in and then go to the area at the top of the page where there is a section to change the amount pledged. Once you've chosen your reward, then no matter how much you increase your pledge to, you will still receive the reward that you selected. If you forgot, simply come back and adjust your amount; the amount can be modified anytime! Thanks for all of your support!
The intent of the filmmakers has been to take the Documentary through the Film Festival circuit and ultimately seek greater exposure for Chet Zar and his art, with potential distribution occurring at a higher level. Although the Kickstarter budget does not include distribution costs, depending upon the amount of money generated it may be possible to work something out...perhaps a free download of the entire Documentary. Stay tuned for more information and future developments.
Upon completion of this campaign you will receive a survey and can make your choices then (or) you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know who you are and what lower tier you want. I'll note your choice and make sure that you get the right one!
