Zombies for All Ages...
I have loved zombies for a very long time... they are the every man's monster. Who doesn't enjoy imagining how they'd fare in a zombie apocalypse?! I was pregnant with my second child and while my days were spent preparing to welcome a new baby into our home, my 'too uncomfortable to sleep' nights were spent watching a lot of The Walking Dead and other zombie movies. These two worlds collided one day when I started toying with making up a zombie themed alphabet. It became a challenge to me to finish the entire alphabet. I had my yellow legal pad with all the different apocalypse themed words for each letter, toying around with different combinations. Should S stand for shuffle, survivor, shotgun, or safe-house? Should H stand for horde, hide, or headshot? And then the challenge of making it all rhyme! With the text finally completed, I knew I had something special... I knew other parents would enjoy having an ABC book that was actually interesting to read! No more boring B is for Ball!!!
How the alphabet begins... A is for Apocalypse: a desolate wasteland where the walking dead thrive. B is for Brains: you must learn to use yours if you want to survive. C is for Civilization: it was fun while it lasted. D is for Dead-zone: the area incinerated when blasted.
I now needed to find an artist who could bring the book to life.
Enter Matt Page. I came across some of his artwork on Facebook and fell instantly in love with his style. He brings the perfect balance of cute and queasy to the zombies while creating an actual story within the artwork- you can follow individual characters through the alphabet to see if they survive or fall victim to the growing zombie horde. This is one of those books that is just a pleasure to look at.
Why a Board book?
Board books have such a nice aesthestic to them. They have heft and there is a quality to them that feels more significant. It is definitely not the cheaper route- but we value delivering a quality product over bigger profit margins. We want this book to survive being read and reread, and slept and drooled on by your children.
Well, where else could you go to recruit the best team for your post apocalyptic compound?! We have brought this project to Kickstarter to raise funds to print a small, off-set run of this board book. We are looking to raise $6,000 to cover the actual printing and fulfillment costs.
Everyone should be able to enjoy the best zombie themed preschool book on the market (so, okay, we might be the only zombie themed preschool book on the market, but we totally rock the genre if I do say so myself). That's why we have created reward levels for all the budgets! Join the horde and back B is for Brains: ABCs for the Zombie Apocalpyse! (**shipping is included with all pledge levels)
Ellie Sutton lives the glamorous life of being a stay at home homeschooling mom (and seriously, it's glamorous. She spends many days feeling like a Hollywood starlet living in yoga pants and eating cereal out of coffee mugs.) She has two beautiful children with whom she gets to share her love for all things geek. Ellie would make an excellent Zombie Apocalypse team mate because she can cook Spam in a dozen different delicious ways.

Risks and challenges
Though this is our first Kickstarter project, this is not the first business venture for either of us. We have done a lot of the ground work for this project before launching on Kickstarter. The book is almost complete and will be ready to go to print by the end of the campaign! This means that digital rewards can go out shortly after the campaign ends, and we can begin the printing process as soon as funding is completed. We are aiming to have all rewards delivered by February 2016. We are committed to this project being a success- and that means delivering a high quality product to our backers in a timely manner. I promise to keep you guys in the loop every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
