A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Scentee Machina is the diffuser reinvented to a more simpler, sexier and technologically mature design. At last, you can now control when the smell goes off, which smell to go off and much more, all from your phone.

We were live at CES®︎ 2018 from January 9~12.
Diffusers have always been this not very beautiful misconception of smell stored in a jar that you have no control over whatsoever. You only get to choose 1 smell, you can’t control when it goes off, you have to manually refill it, and it is embarrassing to have it in public.
We at Scentee are all about the smell experience. Back in 2013 we launched a successful campaign at a Japanese crowd funding site, and got our first smart gadget "Scentee Balloon" off. It hit the world by a storm, successfully selling over 20,000 units.
For our next step, we wanted to try a "product" that can be used in every house. We looked at the objects around us, and found something that was hidden in plain site. The diffuser”. We created over 100 prototypes, and each time, our focus was on how to make the simplest, yet sexy design, that people will like whatever point in time they were in.
Our goal was clear, we wanted the simplest functional design. It had to be sexy and timeless. Some of the designs were very amazing on paper, but when we made prototypes of them, they weren't functional. Together with our manufacturing partner, we produced prototype over prototype, every time taking inspiration from a different life scene, until we reached what we thought was the ultimate design.
This design, the Scentee Machina, is a base that can be put on any flat surface, and detachable perfume parts. The base is connected with the internet, meaning you can program it the way you like. It’s the beginning of the smell revolution.

Also, Scentee Machina's AI will learn from your usage history, and will suggest your favorite fragrance.
Add the amount of the add-on you want to the pledge, and after the campaign ends, we will send you a survey to confirm it.
Why are we in Kickstarter
Ever since our first product, we are big believers in the crowd funding community, and huge fans of kickstarter. Since our last product, kickstarter has launched in Japan recently, and we have sought this as a great opportunity to showcase our product to the international market. Hence, here we are!
Risks and challenges
We have been working with our manufacturing partner for over 5 years, and have delivered B2C products (Scentee Balloon), and B2B products to world renown brands at as much as 10,000 unit/month. So in this sense, we have extreme confidence in delivering on a mass scale.
Our concern is keeping the quality level where we want, and making sure the app integration works well with most of the phones out there. We will be flying in to the manufacturer's factory every week to check on progress. We also have partnered with a big software testing firm in Japan to make sure the app will be up to standard.
