We are combining GPS with full open-channel and limitless-range communication via mobile network. In other words our product is a fully functional sat nav that lets you talk with all other users.
The GoTalk Pro team is reviving the idea of CB radio and giving it a modern twist to utilise the power of modern smartphones and the growing speed and coverage of mobile internet.
We offer a complete package - a rugged Bluetooth handset and a unique dual-interface smartphone app. GoTalk Drive is a fully functional sat nav app for all road users, offering all the 'usual' features along with the game-changing red ‘Talk’ button, which instantly lets you speak with everyone, anywhere without knowing their phone number or user name. It’s exactly like CB or HAM radio in the ‘old days’ or a walkie talkie kit but without any extra equipment or license and, most of all, without range limits and interference. Use GoTalk Drive to warn other drivers about dangers or speed traps, to get help or advice, or simply to chat about anything. As proven in our tests, it completely changes the driving experience by giving traffic a 'face’ - or a ‘voice’ - and creating a community rather than an angry bunch competing over every inch of the road. GoTalk Adventure - inspired by computer games - is an interactive compass. Using a form of a tactical map, it shows the location of other people on the same channel. A simple touch of the red button lets you talk with the whole group at once - perfect for any outdoor activity, such as paintball, cycling, or hiking, or for finding your friends in a large city crowd.
GoTalk Drive - A state of the art sat nav app meets 21-st century CB radio.
Being stuck in traffic is no fun. Especially with other drivers competing with you over every inch of the road. We believe that given a chance and the right tools we can get drivers too cooperate rather than compete and create a community to fight traffic together. The key to this is our trademark small red button you can see on the pictures below. As proven in our test, and witnessed in countries where CB radio is still popular - communication between road users makes a huge difference. It not only let's you get latest traffic information from others, warn and be warned about incidents, road closures, diversions, speed traps etc. It lets you TALK. About anything, with everyone around you. And believe us, given a chance, drivers are a friendly bunch and have plenty to talk about.
The great thing about GoTalk Drive is its simplicity. There’s no need for any extra equipment or a license. Download our app, choose a channel or create your own, and voila! You can talk with any road user, anywhere - lorries, commuters, taxis, motorcyclists, cyclists, or even a pedestrian trying to hitch a ride. You can also choose range-limited channels, exactly like a CB radio works, so you only receive info relevant to where you are.
Going on a car or motorbike trip with your friends? Set up a private channel and have instant communication between your vehicles. And here comes another unique feature: our Follow function. Instead of choosing a destination, choose the group leader and follow him or her with standard sat nav on-screen instructions. It’s no longer a problem if your groups gets split up at a traffic light - GoTalk will show you the location of the leading vehicle on your phone and provide turn-by-turn instructions.
- Group communication via open and user-created channels
- User reports - traffic, incidents, speed traps, etc.
- Real-time traffic info from other users
- Follow function
- Turn-by-turn navigation with voice commands
- User-edited maps
- All the usual sat nav functions
GoTalk Adventure - A game-inspired tactical map meets walkie talkie
Our Adventure app has been designed with outdoor types in mind. Whether you venture out alone or with a group, nothing will be the same with GoTalk.
The key features are, of course, easy communication and our trademark red button, as well as our SAT HUD - an interactive compass inspired by computer games. The red button lets you communicate with everyone at once, like a walkie talkie, while the SAT HUD shows you the direction to a chosen destination as well as the locations of other people on the same channel. It saves you the frustration of getting lost and having to shout to each other. Using the compass as a sat nav is simple and fun - it shows you the general direction ('as the crow flies') and the distance to your destination, but choosing the exact path is up to you! You can even use a topographic map in the background.
It is great for any outdoor group activity - our airsoft guys from the video loved it! If you prefer to go alone, it still lets you stay safe and connected. In case of an emergency, you don’t need to call your friends miles away. Just send an SOS signal along with your coordinates and get help from fellow GoTalkers in your area, without the need to know their phone number or user name.
Going out with a group of friends or kids? Be it a city trip, a mountain hike, or a crowded event - with GoTalk Adventure, you all stay connected and can see the location of everyone at a glance.
Our Kid Mode, which uses geofence technology, lets you set a virtual perimeter and get an alarm if your kids get too far away from you. You choose the safe distance - let's say 200 meters from you, and GoTalk will inform both you and your kids when they're about to cross the virtual 'fence'. You can also see their real time location on your device.
- Instant group communication
- Real-time GPS location of all users
- Navigate to points of interest or set coordinates
- Use of topographical maps as a background
- Personalisable interface
- SOS function
- Kid mode
Although you can use GoTalk just with your smartphone app, we believe it really comes to live with our bluetooth handset. We put a lot of thought and time to make sure it is the best device of this type on the market. Our app aside, it can it also work as a loudspeaker for your normal phone calls - meaning your precious smartphone can be safe and sound in your pocket/backpack!
The GoTalk Pro Bluetooth handset is inspired by rugged walkie talkies, HAM radios, and the CB radio speaker. Made of robust plastic and to meet the IP67 standard (certification pending), it can keep up with you and survive any outdoor adventure. It will also look right at home in your car.
It features the all-important TALK button, as well as the traditional red and green handset and volume buttons. Apart from their obvious functions, we will also let you program shortcuts to use our app without touching the phone (for example, double-click the + button to report a speed camera).
One of the unique features is a powerful LED torch:
- 1000mAH Lithium Ion Battery (20 hours talk time, 300 hours standby)
- Bluetooth V4.0 with 128-bit encryption, HSP, HFP, A2DP, AVRC support
- DSP noise reduction and echo cancellation
- Works as a loudspeaker for normal calls
- Weight approx. 130g

It’s been a hell of a ride with nearly two years of hard - but, most of all, exciting - work! Where are we now? Our handset is fully designed, and we have working prototypes. We have previous experience manufacturing electronics (although in a niche market), and we are confident we can create and deliver a top-notch product. As for the app, communication is up and running (although not ready for millions of users, of course), and we have an early beta version of the Adventure interface, as you can see in the video below. The sat nav part is a work in progress.
How You Can Help
Now, we come to the part where we really need your help! We need funding and a lot of extra hands (or brains) to combine the ‘TALK’ with the ‘NAV’. Once it works, we need you to test the early versions to eliminate any flaws, errors, and bugs. And then there’s the final obstacle. Popularity is the key to our success—even if we have a great app, without enough chatty users we will never really take off. We believe, and are aware of, that this is possibly one of the most complex and ambitious projects on Kickstarter yet, and we really cannot make it without your help and support!
Risks and challenges
First of all, we do realise this is a hugely complicated project! However, we believe we have found the right partners to do it. Another piece of good news - there are some existing 'bricks' (SDKs in this case) to build our app, especially for the crucial communication and sat nav parts. So we 'just' have to seamlessly put it all together and enhance by a hundred additional features.
Once it's all up and running, we are facing another major challenge, especially with the GoTalk Drive app. Popularity is the key - we really need you to use it to make it work. One of the reasons we are setting a reasonably high goal for our campaign is to make sure the app will have enough users when we launch it. The Sat Hud is mostly independent and will suit any kind of user, whether the app is popular or not. Same for the handset, which also can be used with other apps or as a handsfree speaker. On the other hand, the sat nav is only good when we get plenty of users to report traffic info and chat. So, we really hope you like this idea as much as we do.
As for the GoTalk Pro handset, we designed it from scratch - it is not something that already exists and can simply be re-branded with a sticker. We use, however, existing and popular components (like the Bluetooth module, battery, Cree led etc.). We also have experience in making reliable electronics of similar complexity, so the hardware part is less of a challenge. We are confident we will deliver a top notch product.
The Bottom Line
We know we can pull it off, and we will do our best (and more) to deliver on time, but as we’re in uncharted waters here, we’ll surely encounter unforeseen obstacles, bugs, and gremlins, which may lead to delays. We will keep you posted at all times, with the great and equally the not so great news!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
