If you love great quality art, enticing scenes of action, adventure, mystery, horror, humor and intrigue, then please check out the Xtreme Champion Tournament.
So what exactly is the Xtreme Champion Tournament?
Format: Standard comic, full colour, 22 pages, Issue #0 of an ongoing series, limited to 5000 standard copies and 300 incentive cover copies.
Synopsis: In the year 2069 secret archaeological digs over the last 50 years are going to rock the foundation of what we all believe. The remains of heroes, villains, monsters and creatures that we have long believed to be myth or legend have been found. The remains have been used to create clones which are caged, retrained and forced to fight in the most brutal sport in the world the "Xtreme Champion Tournament". This sport has become the most watched sport in history and sees cloned fighters pitted against each other and mythical creatures for the worlds entertainment.
Introduction: In this first issue you will be introduced to the hero Spartacus and the inventor of the cloning process Dr Frank Stein. This issue covers the back story of Spartacus and the introduction of the Xtreme Champion Tournament with a fast paced story line filled with plenty of action.
Without Kickstarter I would not be able to produce a project like this on my own. By taking this route I have a creator owned comic book that other wise wouldn't have been made. I have already gone as far as I can on my own and now need a helping hand from the comic book and Kickstarter community. Using Kickstarter to self publish this series also gives me creative freedom without the restrictions of a big comic book publisher. Using this campaign I also hope to gauge the interest in the book and see if an ongoing series would be successful. If you would like to see the comic book completed and an ongoing series then please make a pledge.
What your support does: All money raised will go directly towards Xtreme Champion Tournament production and promotion costs and to give backers some awesome rewards!
Production and Promotion costs include:
- Paying the Penciler
- Paying the Inker
- Paying the Colourist
- Paying the Letterer
- Paying the Graphic Designer (logo/info)
- Paying the printing and shipping costs of Posters & Prints
- Paying the printing and shipping costs of Comics
- Paying of expenses for other Promotional Material
- Paying for the XCT Website
What we hope: For this book to be a major hit we've got to get the word out! If this campaign is successful we hope to get this into all comic book stores throughout the world. As backers of this Kickstarter we commit to you that the standard and incentive cover used for this campaign is limited to 5000 copies and 300 incentive copies. If the comic is successful and more of this issue is required we will commission another artist for a new cover. This means you not only get a great comic but a limited edition first release comic that we hope will only increase in value over the years, like the first issue of "The Walking Dead".
Whats in it for you?
We have tried to think outside the box when it comes to incentives for backing this campaign and we think we have come up with some awesome ideas.
Firstly, we have been lucky enough to have Spartacus "Liam McIntyre" from the Starz series do a signing for us to promote and support this campaign. Some of the items signed include copies of the comic (both standard and incentive covers), prints (both standard and incentive cover) and posters (standard cover image and Carlos Herrera image below).
Below are some images of Liam McIntyre, Todd Lasance and Christian Antidormi from the STARZ series "Spartacus" at Supanova where we got the comics, prints, and posters signed.
Other incentives include prints of Spartacus and some other characters out of the series. These prints have been drawn by some awesome artists that include Royce Sutherland, Luke Andrew, Chris McQuinlan, Dave Atze, Jerry Gaylord, Mike Bowden and Chris Copeland. We also have a few other prints by some other awesome artist's that will be unlocked as stretch goals.
Some other rewards we have include Original Art from the comic, having your own recurring character in the ongoing series and even the Original artwork for the cover to this issue by Jerry Gaylord.
We haven't forgotten about our retailers/artists/small businesses who also have the opportunity for advertising space in the comic book or a exclusive in store launch for them during the year to promote the Xtreme Champion Tournament, where I will attend (any other creative team member will also attend if available).
The final reward is one of three Artist Proof (AP) statues of Spartacus. The first will be used for showcasing at conventions, XCT launch's and be kept as the prototype and the other two will be offered as rewards. The item is still in development and we will be posting images regularly to show you the final product but the statue will essentially look like the standard cover. See the first images below.

Myself (Shaun Paulet) creator of the XCT universe and basic story line.
Brendan Halyday is an great Australian talent that specializes in illustrating, design and writing and has done an awesome job scripting & editing this book as well as providing all the polish.
Jerry Gaylord has burst onto the scene with Fanboys Vs Zombies by BOOM! Studios. We are super lucky to have Jerry on board this project with his super tight pencils and great action scenes. Jerry was also nominated for the Harvey Award for best new talent, so you know his artwork is going to rock. We are also hoping to secure Jerry for future issues of XCT once this Kickstarter is successful!
Alex Sollazzo has done a great job inking this issue and has worked on books such as Ravagers by DC and Morning Glories by Image.
Gabriel Cassata has worked closely with Jerry at BOOM! studios colouring several of there titles including Fanboys Vs Zombies, 3 Guns, Protocol Orphans and Supurbia just to name a few. His colours are always fantastic making all the characters jump right off the page and hit you in the face.

Risks and challenges
The delivery date for almost all rewards will be in late March or early April of 2014. After the campaign is over, I'll be keeping everyone up to date on the coloring, design, and printing schedules for the book and all the rewards as we go along.
With the pencil and ink illustrations already done, all that's left is having the pages digitally colored in the same explosive fashion as above by Gabe Cassata, and the design/layout work for the interior of the book. The turnaround on printing for the books is about 9-10 weeks and will be done during this campaign, once received packing and shipping all those cool rewards will take about 2-3 weeks to action.
You know how nothing in life EVER goes perfectly smooth, right? Well, just to give you all a heads up, if there are shipment schedule issues or challenges with the printers, or those pesky day-to-day challenges, I know how to stick it out, get the work done, make it look great and meet those deadlines!
I believe that transparency is key in a venture like this, so again, I'll be keeping everyone informed as we make our way through this fun project. Thanks for all your support.
