What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

This project is designed to work with control systems such as Crestron/AMX and Extron.

The main reason for this design is to remove the "internet" requirement that other interfaces currently require. All commands and customizations can be done by the user including, Wake words, responses, and even voice enabled monitoring of your location.

When monitoring is turned on the device will accept incoming updates from the control system and let you know what is happening such as, " Sir the bedroom lights were turned on" or even " I detected motion at the back door". The voice options are controlled by the user and the control system. The controller will notify the device of the event and tell it what the event was for speaking to you.

All this is done with no internet and no registrations. The other hurdle over come by this project is the ability to work with older control systems. Current devices will only work if you have a newer system. The goal was to be able to add this to older systems without forcing the user to pay for more hardware upgrades.

Backing of this project helps to get a working prototype developed including the enclosure and specialized hardware for the operating system.

Risks and challenges

The challenges with this project are not only the case and how it presents itself but in also providing the user with a interface that can customize.
The other obstacles are finding the right hardware for the device. Currently using parts of other manufactures but would like to develop custom designed hardware unique to the needs of the software.
