We created open-source tools to record neurons. Now we wish to publish experiments that help teachers and amateurs use our kits. Read more
This project was successfully funded on January 11, 2012.
After two rounds of modifying proofs and formatting with the PLoS ONE production crew, early this Monday morning we received this message:
""The SpikerBox: A Low Cost, Open-Source BioAmplifier for increasing Public Participation in Neuroscience Inquiry" has been accepted for production and will require no further action from you. You will receive notification when your publication date has been established."
We're all done! Now time to pay up. We received $1,484.89 in total funding, and after the cuts Amazon Payments and Kickstarter took, we had $1352.89 available. So, yesterday, we wrote a check out to PLoS ONE and set the check on its way! See below.
Note that that the stamp on the envelope is in Chilean Pesos, not US dollars. What?! We landed in Santiago a week ago as part of Chilean Government Project "Start-Up Chile." We will be spending some time down here bringing spikes and neuroscience to the colleges (universidades) and high schools (escuelos). Neurosciencias por todo! Cerebros del Patio Trasero! The check should take about two weeks to get from Santiago to San Francisco.
What did we do with the remaining $2.89 from our Kickstarter Fund?
Subway ride to post office = 580 Chilean Pesos (USD $1.19)
Envelope = 20 Chilean Pesos (USD 4 cents)
Stamp = 520 Chilean Pesos (USD $1.04)
For a total of $2.27. The remaining 62 cents went towards a cup of coffee on the train.
Thanks for your support everyone! The paper should come out in April, and we'll send all the gear out then. Let us know if some of you want your SpikerBoxes sooner, and we'll be happy to oblige!
