About this project
This project began as part of my internship at 2D Cloud, as a way to learn the ropes of publishing, printing, etc. I got to propose the project and handled most of it on my own, with guidance and assistance from Raighne and 2D Cloud.
Every/Body is a follow-up to Little Heart that focuses on people as individuals, by examining the topics of the body and gender. This anthology, edited by me, Greer Lawson, and distributed by 2D Cloud, discusses and explores the way people view themselves and others, their bodies, and the way each person defines themselves. Contributions for Every/Body discuss body, gender, and sexuality through a variety of mediums including comics, illustration, and text.
Printing costs are the main reason we need your help funding this project. We plan to finish up with a 5.5 x 8.5", perfect bound, 88-page book with color covers and black-and-white interior. We will be offset printing with the help of Niagara Press. We are hoping to do a print run of about 1,000. Your contributions also help us give back to the artists who made this project possible. If our goal of $2,500 is met, we will be able to give each contributing artist a free copy of the final book. Shipping is also going to be very costly, especially to places outside the U.S. and Canada. If you are having your reward shipped internationally, adding a couple extra dollars to your pledge would be greatly appreciated!
After all the books are printed, Every/Body will be distributed by 2D Cloud and make its debut at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this May!
Contributions for Every/Body include work from Annie Mok, Ben Tye, Brittany Upton, Carl Thompson, Anna Bongiovanni, Coleman Gilbert, Greer Lawson, Ann Macarayan, Drew Larson, Ezequiel Hyon, Josh Kaplan, Jacklyn Hy Kim, Irena Freitas, John Wilinski, Kaitie White, MariNaomi, Marissa Luna, Rebecca David, Rob Kirby, Tatyana Vogt (aVo), Jessi Zabarsky, Nina Kiel, Maggie Lynn Negrete, Jillian Fleck, Miranda Harmon, Adrienne Lesperance, Jim Rugg, Bethany Radloff, Louie Chin, Tony Breed, Michael Perez, Isaac Ruder, Colin Sanborn, Jon Marchione, Noah J., Mika Bacani, April Kasulis, Noel Kalmus, Azisa Noor, Dawson Walker, Alex Araiza, and others, as well as a foreword by Barb Schulz.
Our lovely video, above, was filmed by Alex Araiza and edited by Josh Kaplan.
PLEDGE REWARDS FOR OUR AWESOME BACKERS:
At $10, you receive a print copy of Every/Body mailed to you (or available for pick-up if you're also attending TCAF in May). Color covers, perfect-bound, 5.5 x 8.5" and 88 pages of black-and-white comics, illustration, text, and more. This book is going to look great!
Pledge $20 or more and you'll get the printed book, as well as a digital copy of the anthology as a .PDF file that you can view on your computer or tablet. You'll also receive one snazzy 4x6" print, with color art from some of the artists who contributed to the anthology! There are only 100 prints being made, so we split them between this reward tier and the next one up. The $20 pledge is limited to 50 total.
For pledging $35 or more you'll get a digital AND print copy of Every/Body, plus one print, and you will also receive a print copy of Little Heart: a comic anthology for marriage equality! That's two books, a digital book, and one print! Prints are limited to 50 for this reward, so get them while they're still available!
Finally, for $40, you will get both the digital and print copies of Every/Body plus ORIGINAL ART by me! I'll make 6x9" ink drawings available for this reward, all relating to body and gender. This reward is also limited. There are only eight drawings so the first eight to pledge will get an original art piece with their book!
Risks and challenges
The risks/challenges for this project will mostly be printing and TIME! We are racing against the clock to finish this book in time to debut at TCAF this May. We will be printing covers and interiors with Niagara Press, about 1,000 books on an offset printer, and binding the book at Muscle Bound bindery in Minneapolis.
I have edited anthologies before, specifically both volumes of LADYQUEST, but working with a printer and getting a perfect bound book done is a first for me; however, I am being assisted and guided by Raighne Hogan and 2D Cloud to finish this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
