About this project
Check out the video directly above for info on the special edition print we just added as a reward!
Sometimes two artists meet at exactly the right time. And in collaborating, they transform eachothers' work into something different, better; somehow higher.
Now we are embarking on a new journey together. Experimenting with the intersection of classic songwriting and exhilarating polyryhthms, we are creating a universe of sound that is spare, yet playful, propulsive and painterly. We plan to record an album entirely live, made only of sounds we two can produce -- heart, soul and very little studio trickery -- harkening back to the days of classic Blue Note recordings.
We would love for you to make this record possible! Check out the rewards we are offering, and see what tickles your fancy. If you can't chip in, but you are excited about our project, spread the word! That is a big help.
If you are in the music industry and would like to talk about more formal business arrangements, please e-mail me via my Web site.

My husband and collaborator Sebastian Rogers (Floetry, Tunde, Roses, Kings & Castles) will co-produce the album alongside my longtime friend Sheldon Gomberg, who won a Grammy this year for his work with Ben Harper. We are recording the album down in LA, but will bring it back to Portland to be mixed by Tony Lash (Elliot Smith, The Dandy Warhols, Feist). The budget also covers artwork and design, CD manufacture, printing, a few pieces of needed gear, and promotion for the album.
Here are pics of some of the handmade rewards we are offering! And some pix just for fun.

Risks and challenges
I have the utmost confidence in our team, and in the passion we all share for this project. This will be the seventh studio album on which I am a primary contributor. It will be challenging to capture the energy of our live performances in the more clinical environment of the recording studio. Sebastian -- who knows both of us well, and is experienced in getting the best performances out of artists -- will be a big help in that area.
As far as the campaign goes, we have thought hard to create rewards that are exciting and fun, but within our capabilities to deliver. Communication is important on this front too -- we'll let you know where we are, and we hope you do the same. [I once unknowingly released an independent album during a mail strike in Britain -- took me a little while to work out what was going on!] Be the squeaky wheel if you need to be!
