TECHNICALLY, MARVIN is a short film and a follow up to 2014's ON A TECHNICALITY.
Why this story?
Have you ever heard a story and thought, “This has GOT to be a film”? We have been blessed with not just one, but two such stories through our friendship with the guys who are the original inspiration for ON A TECHINICALITY. When we heard about the real-life Marvin and his quest for companionship through a green card marriage, we knew we had another chapter in our Jack’s Deli series.
The original ON A TECHNICALITY has touched many people who could relate with the characters and their attempt to cheat death through gallow’s humor. Needless to say, it didn’t end on the highest note, so we wanted to show these guys in a lighter, more comedic light. And it also gave us a chance to introduce a new character: Marvin, who will be played by Noah Budin. Marvin is a great addition to the Jack’s family, an annoying schlub whose heart is in the right place.
Who are we?
Individually, we are Jeffrey Grover, Andrew Gorell and Steven Hacker. Combined we are g2h films, dedicated to making with heart, humor and the highest professional standards. Together, we have nearly a century of experience in the entertainment industry, working in film, TV and live theater.
Our first film, ON A TECHNICALITY, has been screened at festivals in New York, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Kansas City and Cincinnati. Our second project, BETWEEN THE LINES, is in the process of being submitted to film festivals. Since no moss grows on a rolling stone, we're now making our third film in as many years.
Why are we asking for your money?
Because of our dedication to the development of high-quality, professional filmmaking in Northeast Ohio, we pay our crew and cast to allow them to make a living right here in Cleveland. We don't want to lose any more talent to the coasts when we can have a vibrant filmmaking community right here at home. Although the Hollywood projects that have filmed here over the last few years have brought attention to our area, it's up to us now to maintain and grow.
However, short films do not make much money. So as we develop our stories and our talent, we need the support of others who also believe in this dream of a home-grown filmmaking community in Northeast Ohio. We are planning to shoot for four days, as opposed to the three we've used on previous shorts. This extra day represents many additional costs but also an opportunity to expand our production to include more locations and time for our actors and crew to best tell this story.
What do we have?
- A very strong script;
- A masterful cast, our originals from ON A TECHNICALITY and new cast members, including Noah Budin as Marvin and Cindy Chang as Mi-Young;
- A professional crew, most of whom worked together on ON A TECHNICALITY and other films here in the area for many years;
- A proven track record of making high-quality films and marketing them to festivals around the country.
How will your money be used?
Money raised here will be used to pay crew and actors for their time, to feed and transport said crew and actors during the shoot and to purchase or rent equipment for the shoot. We are providing as much of our own equipment (cameras, lights, computers, editing software, etc.) and time as possible to produce this film.
We will shoot for four days in July and August in the Cleveland area, including Jack's Deli and The American Tavern. Post-production is scheduled to be completed no later than December 1st of this year.
Risks and challenges
As with any film project, there can be problems and delays based on the literally hundreds of moving parts involved in any film project. That being said, we have completed and screened two films over the last two years, so we are confident in our ability to produce this project.
If there are any issues that will delay the completion of this project, we pledge to be absolutely transparent with all of our funders.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
