Pre-Sell Our First EP and Steal Your Heart
We want to PRE-SELL our first EP ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC In Your Heart and raise the visibility of our music by reaching YOU through Kickstarter.
Our Project Goal is $5,000 AND hundreds of new fans!
Great Aunt Ruth & the Saucy Cats is a virtual band; a musical collaboration between a group of topflight Los Angeles musicians, including record producer Rahn Coleman, and me (Kathryn Joy) a singer/songwriter/recording artist.
I am from the Vail Valley in Colorado; my producer—Rahn Coleman, my studio--Nolan “KatDaddy” Shaheed’s NO SOUND Studio, and all the other musicians are located in the Los Angeles area.
The entire EP is original music—I composed the songs, and Rahn Coleman arranged and produced them. Rahn is big on my lyrics. The recordings feature musicians who have worked closely with such notables as Barry White, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, Aretha Franklin, Freda Payne, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Sammy Davis Jr. and the Count Basie Orchestra.
We need to raise $5,000 to help us finish the production of the physical CDs and fund postage to radio, filmmakers, music critics, and record labels that like eclectic and exotic music. The goal also includes the funds needed for the Kickstarter fees and the rewards we are promising those who join us on this remarkable journey.
Our Stretch Goals
The more money we raise, the more music we can make.
There are at least two more songs we would like to record together and release as digital singles; and there are many more to be written.
It costs about $3,500 to make each song, including the digital visuals designed by Marcus Marritt, the band artist. This covers the cost of the arranger, producer, killer musicians, and the studio as well as travel for the singer/songwriter from Colorado to Los Angeles.
We are keenly aware that it takes as much or more money to promote the music as it does to make it. This Kickstarter project is our foray into music promotion. We hope to capture your hearts without "professional help".
The legacy from my real Great Aunt Ruth to underwrite the music production is exhausted and so are my personal resources. We need YOU.
And we want you, because our art becomes more meaningful to us when there's an an interaction--when we reach, touch, feel, and connect with YOU!
A Little Philosophy...
That famous jazzman, trumpeter and writer Wynton Marsalis says many things that speak to me about music and about life. He says "A musician's whole life is to listen..." and that "Love is the spiritual essence of what we do." He reminds young musicians to ask the question "What do I have that I can present to people that will make them feel better about being alive?"
You Can Be A Fan!
Fans who follow us on their streaming services and social media can make a huge difference to our future. The more followers we have, the more likely that streamers such as Spotify, Deezer, and AppleMusic will add us to their playlists. Maybe a record label will take notice, or a film-maker will find our music and share it in a movie. We would like to hear our music on radio. Wouldn't you?
Fans who playlist us and then share our music with their friends are the ones who catapult bands like ours to breakeven or even greater success. All musicians are looking for the secret to going viral. That secret is YOU! And with your help, we can bring you more music!

Below is our artist link on Spotify, featuring my first four singles which were arranged and produced by my friend the fabulous keyboard artist Joel Scott. Be sure to follow us.
There's another Wynton Marsalis statement I find true as I make this journey: "Through improvisation, jazz teaches you about yourself. And through swing, it teaches you that other people are individuals too. It teaches you how to coordinate with them." Isn't life all abut improvisation and swing and playing with others?
The new music on this EP is exciting, flavored a little differently by Rahn Coleman, some new players, different production techniques, and by my growth as a singer.
We hope you like it.
Risks and challenges
We have many international fans, and we appreciate each one of them them. International postage costs for our deliverables was one of the most significant variables we had to factor into our reward offerings.
If we reach our stretch goal, the challenge will be finding the time on everyone’s schedule for another big recording rendez-vous at NO SOUND Studio and then for the post-production work. Each song takes time to produce. These jazz cats are busy. We have been working on this 6-song EP for two years.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
