The goal of the game is to allow the player to navigate through higher dimensions, and therefore other universes and multiverses of space time. Projections such as the tesseract, time travel, complicated fractals and other art stylings will be used to convey this effect. Music will be one of the most important parts of the game. In higher dimensions, the music will change based on the actions of the player, and the visual style throughout the higher dimensions will be heavily psychedelic. This will be a puzzle game, a platform game, and the world's first (virtual) Omniverse-wide action-adventure game. Since this is a multi-universe game, gameplay will be largely open and will change from Universe to Universe.
Syd Waters, age 28, while working in a science lab at his doctorate University, opens a portal to another dimension. Emerging from this portal is an old man, who reveals himself to be Syd from the future. Older Syd asks younger Syd to come with him, to his lab on the other side of the space-time portal. He explains to Syd that he is an interdimensional traveler, and has traveled through the fourth dimension of time so that he can find himself in the past to continue his own life's work. Old Syd is trying to find the secret to immortality. He can repeat his life over and over again, but he can't figure out how to sustain himself. He has been searching through every dimension of the Omniverse for a way to stop his aging.
Syd follows him through the portal, and is met with a huge machine which, according to older Syd, can open portals throughout all of space time, and he has been using it to continue his own life's work for millions of years through millions of Syd iterations. Young Syd is the millionth Syd to go forward in time. He tells Syd that he must continue his own life's work.
As Young Syd steps into the portal, he is taken into the sixth dimension, outside of our standard convention of space-time. Within sixth dimensional space, Syd views his entire Universe from the outside, as he peers into his own dimensions.
Within the sixth dimension, Syd is able to enter any parallel Universe he can find. Older Syd directs him through the sixth dimension, until he is able to find a fifth dimensional world that contains technology capable of entering the higher dimensions.
Syd will meet many cosmic super-beings who will teach him new things and show him the way to his goal, or do whatever they can to stop him and leave him hanging in the interdimensional voids.
This gameplay will be consistently changing from universe to universe. Each Universe (or Multiverse) will differ vastly from the previous. The goal is to have about 100 differing Universes and Multiverses, ranging anywhere from a geometrical psychedelic meltdown to a knights in shining armor sword and magic RPG.
We hope to develop the game for the Oculus Rift, and most major consoles in addition to PC.
Syd's appearance, animations, and controls will also change as he enters new Universes and Multiverses.
We at Multiverse Games have many ideas for the differing Universes, but we would love to have the ideas for the game open to public opinion. The Kickstarter will also go toward opening a forum in which backers and other supporters can share their ideas for what they would like to see in the different Universes. Anything is possible.
Who is developing the game? Where will the money go?
Right now Multiverse Games is an EXTREMELY small company of just four people. Ryan Martin, director, visual artist and animator; Dusty Yoder, programmer; Taliesin Riggs, coder, and Braden Dodenbier, coder.
We need to hire a full staff to make this game possible. Kickstarter funding is the only way to make this game a reality.
Risks and challenges
We need to hire a full staff. The Kickstarter funding will go to this.
We anticipate needing to hire many skilled 3D artists and animators, coders, testers, artists, art directors and other development positions. Also, we will need to hire musicians, and staff who will code the audio interactions for the higher dimensions in the game. Voice actors will need to be hired. Also, we would like to hire a physicist to oversee the theoretical physics of the game and ensure they coincide with modern physics theories properly.
We will need to cover licensing fees for the programs that will be used to make the game. For example, the Autodesk Suite and Unity licensing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
