The value with Swoppy is that it has a double use: it is more than just a protective phone case with a simple game. It is a specially engineered case that combines tactile buttons that interact with a phone's screen. The app is made to work as a Gameboy emulator that can play 1500+ Gameboy games. New Gameboy games are also made free and open source every day by an active community of retro game developers too!

Phone cases come in all different forms whereby quality is often reflected in a higher price. Most cases cost around US$25-35. Likewise, most (ad-free and no in-app purchases) iOS games can cost anywhere from US$1-10+. Our, locally and sustainably made, case together with the app offers great value.

Quality is our main focus. In the past 9 months, we worked restlessly to raise the case's standard to our expectations. Standard prototyping techniques using 3D printers and low quantity moulds can only take us so far! This is why we have come to Kickstarter. By reaching our goal we can improve the quality even further using manufacturing techniques like injection moulding.

Swoppy will be made using a high-quality recyclable material called Santoprene, and we do this all locally in New Zealand. Plus, all our software development is done in-house!

There is a highly active community of game developers making games for classic systems like the Gameboy OriginalColour. So, even if you don’t own any classic games like Pokemon or Mario, you have a large selection of free and open source Gameboy ROMs to choose from! Check out pdroms.de and this Github list, or let Google be your friend! You can even start making you own Gameboy games right now.

We would love to make Swoppy available to every phone out there. There are many different types of Android phone models available. But manufacturing costs are high. This is because we need a unique mould (or extra cavity) for every phone model. Because of the high set up cost, we take a demand based approach. If enough requests are made for a phone we'll add it.
