A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
What is SaberLoc?
SaberLoc is the future of cornice as we know it. Not only does it revolutionise the way we install cornice, but it opens a pathway to cleaner more environmentally friendly housing products. Made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), SaberLoc is a three-piece cornice system which can be installed by ANYONE. The system contains an anchor, ready mitred corners and the cornice itself.
It works by installing the anchor via the use of glue in the two channels seen in the 90 degree intersection between your wall and ceiling. It can then be held in place to dry by nails, screws or industrial staples. Once dry, the cornice can be installed. This is as simple as clipping the ball joint on the back of the cornice into the anchor. Then fitting the corners as required.
Will there be gaps?
The SaberLoc cornice system is set up in such a way that the edges of the cornice press up against the wall and ceiling before the ball joint is fully engaged into the anchor. This creates a pre-loaded tension between both surfaces and the cornice once fully clipped in, meaning the full elimination of gaps.
What about corners?
Ankapro have engineered corner pieces in which easily fit over the top of your straight pieces. These can come in 90 and 135 degree internal and external pieces to help fit whatever corner your household presents. Like the straight pieces, the corners have also been engineered to create a pre-loaded tension between both the wall, ceiling and your cornice, so once again, no gaps. Since these corner pieces fit over your original lengths by up to 25mm, this eliminates the need to be accurate to the millimetre when cutting your cornice length, as any excess will simply sit behind your corner piece, saving time, money and resources.
What if my wall isn't straight?
It's not uncommon to encounter a wall or ceiling that has moved slightly or is bowed, and when it comes to cornice that can be a real problem, often resulting in part of the cornice breaking away from the wall and/or ceiling.
Since SaberLoc is made out of plastic (PVC) and pre-loaded as mentioned, it is able to follow bends in the wall without consequence; resulting in a just as refined look as if the wall were straight.
Traditional Cornice vs SaberLoc
Lets take a look at how your traditional cornice measures up against SaberLoc in an in-house setting.
Houses do tend to endure movement at some stage in their life, especially housing that requires transportation. As previously mentioned movement can lead to the cornice breaking away from the wall and/or ceiling. We can clearly see a demonstration of that in the pictures shown above. Fortunately with SaberLoc this problem is non-existent, displaying a professional, refined look throughout its lifetime.
Here's a closer look at our product
So why is SaberLoc needed? How is this an improvement upon today's standard cornice?
Today’s standard cornice is far outdated; and rather than looking to alter a current product, in SaberLoc, Ankapro have completely redesigned the way we see cornice.
SaberLoc is 100% recyclable, but that’s only half the story. It can also be made from recycled plastic; making it totally environmentally friendly unlike plaster.
It takes roughly ¼ of the time to install in comparison to traditional cornice, and cuts out the use of specially designed tools and equipment.
As previously mentioned, it can be installed by ANYONE, meaning if you’re looking to cut out extra unwanted costs, why not do it yourself? All you require is the anchor, cornice and mitred corner pieces, commercially available builders adhesive, your choice of nails, staples or screws and access to a ladder.
Want to paint your walls and/or ceiling? Simply un-clip the cornice from the anchor and once finished, re-attach the cornice for a perfect look. Get some paint on the anchor? It doesn’t matter! The anchor is 100% hidden behind your beautiful cornice. By the way, the cornice itself can be painted. Had enough of your current design? SaberLoc will come in a range of designs, sizes and colours. If you decide one day in the future that your cornice just doesn’t reflect the look you want, simply purchase your preferred design, keep your anchor and clip in your brand-new cornice for a painless change.
Are you worried about untidy wiring running up to speakers, alarm systems or other devices in your home? No problem! SaberLoc was designed to feature a channel hidden on the anchor and a wall corner channel from floor to ceiling in which you can run wiring through. This not only allows for a tidy look, but also allows you to locate and access your wiring more easily.
Wiring near your roof, doesn’t that sound dangerous?
If this were any other product, then yes. Lucky for you, our designers at Ankapro have thought of everything! The product is made from PVC plastic. To break it down for you, PVC will only burn while subject to an active flame, once the flame is removed from the equation then the PVC will cease to burn, making it redundant as a fuel source for fire. SaberLoc cornice is made from the same material as electrical conduit that all homes use. So, in the unlikely event that you have a problem, any fire will be contained within the channel, unable to spread since there is no ready fuel source, resulting in the flame self-extinguishing without further damage.
We have big plans for SaberLoc, which is why we refuse to
stop at just cornice. Ankapro plan to expand on the idea, with future
additional features including LED lighting. This will be incorporated into the
cornice; lighting your room from the walls in, much like that of which you
would observe on a football pitch. We believe that this innovation will save
electricity as well as give you a better quality of lighting for your home;
even giving you the option of changing the colour of your lighting on demand.
Expanding even further, we plan on starting designs for tooling which will allow
speakers to be attached to your anchor as well as motion sensors for alarm
systems and much more.
SaberLoc is just the beginning for Ankapro, we already have
designs for a sister product that will be skirting and other prototypes that
expand all the way into the automotive industry.
Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
At Ankapro we have all of our SaberLoc cornice tooling and packaging completed, are business registered, have granted patents on the product and are ready to produce. The only challenges that stand in our way are breaking into the market as well as funding to get tooling for our side projects such as our LED lighting and skirting built. To do this Ankapro needs your help so we can build this tooling and be able to order a substantial amount of cornice to have on hand so we are able to supply on demand. This is why today we reach out for your help to kick-start our Australian made and owned business.
For your much appreciated contribution we'd like to offer you a more detailed look into our product via our digital pamphlet and monthly update, as well as your very own Ankapro key ring and bumper sticker!
We will request your e-mail and address upon funding completion**
